Freedom of Speech AND Abortion Centers

Anyone know what the laws are around abortion centers and can someone freely distribute, preach, and engage around these centers? I just visited a small one and went inside, however I did not pass out any tracts. I started to ask questions to the office manager but she gave me a dirty look (probably received my letter and Chic Tracts) but I did not get in her face or anything just tactfully asked questions.

Was listening to a podcast and Mr. Comfort said that 14 times he has been hassled by the police about his evangelism, I have only been hassled by law enforcement twice and want to keep my record clean by obeying the laws. Once I hit a larger abortion center I will open air preach, pass out tracts, put them on cars, and tell the abortion people they are headed to hell without Christ. Perhaps I should have did this today, but I was either a coward or a tactful evangelist not sure which.

Who else has evangelized abortion centers? I am all new to this.

Evangelized, no. Picketed, yes. We had to stay off abortion center property and we could not interfere with those coming and going.

Most of these young girls and women getting abortions aren't doing it alone. Pressure from the father of the baby, their parents, and believe it or not, their doctors coerce them into a procedure that many of them don't know the true facts about.

I know this for fact because I have witnessed it more times than I would like to count.

My state conducted a study on women who have had abortions and 67% percent of them said that they felt coerced by someone to get the abortion and felt that they had no one to turn to.

My state, Louisiana, has passed a law saying that a sign must be posted in the waiting rooms of abortion clinics allowing women (most of these are young women) to know their rights about motherhood and where they can get help from. And that a website address that gives information about abortion risks, the development of the baby, and more MUST be given by phone or email at the very first appointment at the clinic. It never ceases to amaze me that there are people who believe that young women do this all of their own accord, without anyone else even knowing that they are pregnant and that they don't care. and that it never even phases them one bit.

That does happen, but it's in the minority of the times.

Handing out Chick tracts at a clinic and open-air preaching (screaming at them that they are going to hell) only cuts the wound of some of these women more deeply.

Many of them are already confused, coerced, and will later suffer deep depression over their decision. I've counseled women on both ends - some before the abortion and some years later - and it's terrible, terrible, terrible. When a young man says, "Get rid of it or I'm getting rid of you", there's not a whole lot I can say that will convince them otherwise. When a grandmother says, "Get OUT of my house, you whore", there's not much I can do to alter their decision. And when a doctor lies and says, "You are too small in the hips to carry this child", my words don't carry much credibility.

Coercion is powerful.

Please re-think your decision of "evangelizing" them.

Some of these women ARE Christians. They need support, correct knowledge, someone willing to take care of their medical needs and costs, and someone willing to help them find parents for their babies or teach them to mother the child - even if needs be, alone.

I just wanted to make a quick comment

Recently I attended a luncheon for an organization which ministers to women who are in a crisis pregnancy. The director told us that many women over the past years have accepted the Lord thu Care-Net ( this being in Upstate NY). He went on to say that the % of women who accept the Lord from the South is much lower - because there, MANY profess to have accepted Christ - long before their pregnancy.

Thats a open air preacher whom regularly preaches repentance and hellfire. Not sure what tracts he uses but I assure you I use more than just Chic Tracts. But even if I only used Chic Tracts (which by the way RC Sproul has spoken well of) they would be enough as this Chic Tract hits the nail on the head about the judgment seat of Christ, hell, sin, murder, REPENTANCE, and it does a good job of driving fear into the lost. The lost need to be in fear of falling into the presence of a Holy God, and this Chic Tracts does an excellent job of portraying this theme in a story format. Perhaps this is why RC has said good things about these type of tracts.

I pray for the people doing abortions, and the women wanting an abortion. The gospel is what they need and my message is one of charity and grace. If they were to die without Christ, then they would fall into the hands of an angry and Holy God and great hell will come upon them!!!

Great post Scarlett. Obviously it does not seem to get through to some (one). Tracts and judgement appear to be an autonomic response to any consideration of sharing the message of redemption.

Instead at the mill we should be calling people to repent, which means calling sin sin, and baby murder baby murder. My defense for this direct, honest approach is found in Acts 2. Peter preached to his audience that they had crucified the Messiah. Hardly seeker sensitive, but 3000 were added that day. "Don't murder your baby" may not be what Rick Warren would say, but I suspect it is what Peter would say.

Christians should be at abortion mills, all of them, every day. And we should not be silent. What we should be doing is proclaiming the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
