An Upper NY state high school heard the pledge in Arabic during morning announcements. District apologizes, but school now split on whether it was appropriate or not.

(Because I do not know how to copy and paste from my Nook, you will have to look up the link yourself).

This is not the first controversial issue at this school, as last year the district was blasted for anti-semitic comments.

Are you opposed to reciting the pledge in Arabic?

A rose by any other name is still a rose.

The pledge in any other language is still the pledge.

My God, in any nation, is still God.

    'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
    By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
    Take all myself.

Sorry but the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic does not smell sweet.

I do not know a thing about NY. Up state, down state, mid state? But I do know what the paper quoted and they wrote, "A small town in Upstate New York stands divided after their high school's decision on Wednesday to broadcast the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic."

    Here is the link:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...c-outrage-parents-students.html#ixzz3UzNGfuFT

Also at Huffington Post, "A school in upstate New York has apologized for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic after complaints from district residents who lost family members in the Afghanistan war."

    The Link:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/20/pine-bush-pledge_n_6909202.html

So, you see, Salty - I write it as I sees it!

Maybe you can let these fine establishments of print and news know they don't know a thing about what is up state, down state, up wind or down wind?

Oh, I read the article - That would be like someone in Europe saying that Chicago is near NY City.

Us Upstaters would like to be a separate State - but that's for another thread.

Depends on the language being spoken. The definition of the word Allah is God.

There was a student at the Baptist seminary in Prague from Nigeria. He was one of the best teachers and preachers I have ever heard. He has the gift of explaining difficult concepts in clear and concise words making them easy to understand. When he prayed in his native language and said God the word was Allah. I was surprised the first time I heard him pray thus and asked him about this. He said, that yes, in English we say God, but in his language the same word is Allah. If the world God is translated into his language it must be translated as Allah. There are many Christians who use the word Allah and mean the same God that you and I pray to and seek to follow.

Your sweeping statements are so often wrong ... and off topic.

I think the Rev meant, Allah is not our GOD! And if he didn't, I say that. There is but one God, Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Allah is not God ... he is a demonic form of a false idol.

To cal God anything else but God is blasphemy, and they are damned.

So any non-English speaking Christian is committing blasphemy and is damned?

There's a civil discussion about the use of Allah right here on the BB.

    I didn't say it smelled.

It is about semantics though. Whether one or the other, it is still the same pledge.

Thanks for pointing that out to Matt, however, he doesn't like me much, and enjoys being anything but civil. :tear:

So asking a question in response to what you stated is not being civil. I'll have to remember that to do anything but blindly agree with you is forbidden.

You are correct that I don't like you, and you continue to illustrate why.

I don't believe the Bible permits us to pick and choose who we will and will not like, or love, in the Kingdom! Until you open your heart, Matt, this song is just for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22QYriWAF-U

AFTER ALL, we may be eternal neighbors in heaven!

Perhaps so, perhaps not. It was Gertrude Stein who said a rose is a rose is a rose. To me it is like KJV versus some other translation of Psalm 23. None of the other translations rise to the height of the KJV, the most beautiful translation of Scripture. So I want the Pledge to stay just the way that it is.
