Should Eschatology Have It's Own Board?

Myself, I see it as something that is important in a general understanding of many important issues in Scripture. And I feel it should have it's own board, because there are those who take a greater interest in Eschatology than others. Many of the "great men" of God through History could be pointed out as to whether they had a focus on Eschatology...or not. I have heard quotes of men who are said to have avoided it and considered it unimportant.

So along with the question of the OP, I will throw in, "Is Eschatology important, or can one expound Scripture and remain ignorant of it?"

My time is drawing to a close here for now, so I am not going to participate in this thread right now. It is, just as my other threads with polls, particularly in regards tot he political board, more an attempt to give the members their views for the benefit of the staff.

So please explain why you feel it (Eschatology) should, or shouldn't, have it's own board.

As one who has moderated the Calvinist Board in the past I say no!... Brethren in my opinion push the envelope of Christianity on that board!... Start an Eschatology Board and the envelope will be pushed to the limit!... Don't believe me?... Start one!... Brother Glen

They push the envelope of Christianity.. that's rich. They argue about who said what and who believes what and why the other side is wrong and doesn't believe in a Biblical God. That kind of envelope pushing I want no part of.

Doesn't mean that Calvinism and Arminianism can never come up outside of it, it just means that the Staff gets a better idea of who has any respect for discipline on the Forum.

As a matter of fact I do. Eschatology plays an integral role in our soteriology.

So is this the reason you do not want it secluded to a forum of it's own...because of the other thread?

Just because I am not interested in arguing about eschatology on a board does NOT mean that I think it is unimportant. I think it is very important. It is spoken about too often in the Bible to allow anyone to think it's unimportant.

I preach expositionally, usually through Bible books so I speak about it as often as the Lord saw fit to mention it. But as I have preached through it, I have discovered that the emphasis is not on winning an argument but in how we live because of what we believe.

While I'm not as much a big fan on this subject as I once was, I still enjoy reading about it from time to time.

It would sure beat what I read from those died-in-the-wool KJVO folks in the Translations board!

I haven't really seen anyone give a reason why it shouldn't be. When I did a poll in politics as to whether Racial Contention should be secluded, it was treated as if it were being excluded (like threads on human sexuality), and raised an outcry.

It just seems to me Baptist Theology is over-run with pretty mush the same debate concerning the Rapture. Just wondering if that was cleared up if that would stimulate interest in other issues.

Interesting that you lost interest in Eschatology, or at least, it lessened as you say. For many, it is something that raises interest. One preacher was told, "If you want to fill the house, preach about the end times." I never get tired of it myself, but I guess I can understand with the hostility that arises sometimes one might get tired of the discussion.

On most forums I go to it is usually a pre/post debate, but here it is primarily per/amil. Which is not as interesting, lol.

I usually don't get into that one. That is a personal choice some make and I try to respect it as best as I can, but sometimes the issue is thrust on you.

And usually, just as with everything, it is only the Hyper KJVonlyist takes an extreme view. This view holds that the KJV translation replaces the original manuscripts.

Again, welcome, and thanks for the participation. You raise a good point in regards to the OP, which shows that secluding certain topics has it's purpose.

Back some 45-50 years ago there was this fellow who wrote several small books on the end times. Since I'd ordered one of his books, he would flood me with mail order ads for his next project. Once he wrote that if I'd order a set of his prophecy thrillers, he'd send me a black envelope with a gold notary seal that contained the "actual times" for these future events!!
Then there was another fellow who told me that if I didn't believe the rapture would occur in 1981, then I didn't believe the Bible.
I just ignore people such as this, but still do have some interest in future events.

This seems to be especially true when it comes to yet-to-be fulfilled prophecy.

The guy with the black envelopes was Salem Kirban. What he wrote probably wasn't that far off, but before he got into writing on prophecy, he was in the advertising business. Seems that maybe a little too much of his ads might have rubbed off on many of his promotion tactics.

Don't you just love these date-setters?

I suppose that since the Apostle Paul had to contend with them back in the 1st century AD, we shouldn't be too surprised to see them alive and well in this day and age.
