Should Christian Women .....

..... be "involved" with so-called "'Beauty' Pageants"?

As far as I can determine, the nearest thing in God's Word that comes anywhere near a "Beauty Pageant" would have been found in Esther 2.

Now, I don't really think that King Xerxes/Ahasuerus's principal desire for this "Beauty Pageant" was to "find a hot babe who'll 'lead me to receiving/worshipping the God of Esther/Mordecai.'"

Nah, old Xerxes probably had "other things" on his mind at that time.

Now I know that in these days some don't see any problems with an attractive female "involving" herself in things like this--after all, most "beauty pageants" are supposedly means for acquiring educational scholarships and/or a "platform" for her "agenda(s)" and/or "goals" she wishes to pursue.

Moreover, there have been some "Miss America's" who are, no doubt, sincere, godly women.

I have no problem with a woman using "make up" judicially.

After all, God created women to have "a certain physical charm." EXAMPLE: I'm sure Eve was physically attractive to Adam [& "She was probably the 'most beautiful woman in the world' when Adam first feasted his eyes on her!"].

Other Bible women were noted as being quite physically attractive too (see Job 42:13-15).

All I'm asking is whether or not any of you (male or female) BB folks think a Christian woman ought to "involve herself" in modern-day "'Beauty' pageants. :tonofbricks:

In a word no. The swimsuit part of the competition makes it something that no Christian women should be involved in. Not to mention it is a very self focus vainity event.

If it were a true beauty as described by the Bible, then yeah, I think it would be wonderful but I doubt that kind of pageant would be something that I don't think would be interesting to see. :D

If it is the kind of beauty pageant that goes on like the Miss America thing, I don't think there is any good reason for a woman to be involved.

I think it's a matter of conscience, same as women wearing pants, etc. Obviously, there are 'beauty pageants' whose purpose is immoral, and those should be avoided.

The Christian woman should PRAY before deciding to enter or not enter a given pageant.

No. It's primary purpose is to showcase the flesh, and then "compare themselves with themselves" for public approval and judging what God created. It desensitizes and lowers, pretending to elevate. It is soft porn.

Don't forget the search for a young woman for King David in 1 Kings 1, which contest was won by Abishag.

My answer here would be "No." There is the modesty factor, the humility factor, and the "How would this glorify God?" factor.
