KJV Bibles

Wife wants to leave her MacArthur NKJV study Bible and get a compact size KJV study Bible. The church we attend seems to border on being KJVO and KJVP and the pastor has persuaded her on this one. I am not that familiar with KJV Bibles so can anyone give some suggestions on a good study KJV Bible? I tried to persuade her about the usefulness of the modern versions and why they are far more useful. I even used examples of various verses where the KJV makes the english awkward and hard to understand and why good versions like the ESV or NIV clear things up but my arguments did no good.

I have a Scofield study KJV (from back when I used to attend a KJO church), but I've heard people comment that Scofield isn't very good so IDK.

I've read through it quickly. Check it out

And mr. Evangelist, outside of your open air preaching threads, I wouldn't have a clue you are saved. Your attitude and remarks have been ungodly and unnecessarily sharp towards the brethren. This "lordship" theology isn't quite working well for you. How about you focus on your relationship with Christ and being a Godly husband and quit letting your desire to be "right" concerning theology destroy your witness.

And I would suggest you stop judging me.

Is this SB available in stores? Thanks for the suggestion.

I like the Scofield. You aren't going to find a study bible of any version where you agree completely with the commentator. Just keep that in mind.

Funny thing is .... here is what you said yesterday about judging people's salvation.

"Wow...questioning everyone's salvation all the time has to get old. Christ says judge with righteous judgment...and it is difficult to judge someone's salvation from an external perspective."

I don't know anything more "external" than an internet message board. And with you having been here only 19 days, I can confidently say that there are all sorts of things that you don't know about this man you have harshly rebuked and deemed having no evidence of salvation.

That was my point...IF WE WERE LOOKING AT "FRUIT"

you are proving my point.

I never said the man is lost...I was using HIS type of judgment. "You'll be judged by the same way you judge others..."

My admonishment was to focus on the Lord and not other people.

Thanks. But there are those where I agree with 90-95% and that would be the MacArthur or Jeremiah study bibles.

You judged my salvation so stop trying to deny it as I do not appreciate it. I just reported the post to the mods.

Well brother I apologize for the misunderstanding.

But obviously I didn't judge your salvation as I said you should focus on YOUR relationship with Christ. Lost people don't have a relationship with Christ.

Either way, forgive me for the misunderstanding.

Why not give the Reformation Heritage Study Bible a look?
It is edited by Joel Beeke who is a fine scholar and a godly man. I have heard him speak on several occasions and have always been blessed.

I don't possess one of these because I don't use Study Bibles. but those who do use them speak very highly of it.

i have an old Ryrie SB, KJV version.

I highly recommend anyone wishing to study the KJV to obtain a repro of the AV 1611, complete with all the extratextual material found in the original. (An original would go for over $1 million if available!) This gives valuable insight into the mindset of the KJV's makers.
