A brother said I could be threatened by writing out letters, but after sending out 100 or so I have not received a single threat of violence. I do avoid Muslims to not place myself in danger. But I am worried a little. I mostly target Progressive churches since they have a larger presence in Denver over the cults. But what type of church or cult group is known for violence that I need to avoid? I am worried a little, but then again should trust God. The apostles and Paul had plenty of violence aimed at them, and Ray Comfort has as well.

If you're afraid of putting yourself in danger, then why are you writing at all?

There are just as many fanatics in evangelical and other churches as there are in the muslim religion.

Remember that it's not just you. When you put a return address on a letter or envelope, that's the address where your family lives, too.

I'd stick to writing Anabaptist groups. Not sure what you have in Colorado, but generally the Amish are fairly easy targets. And their buggies are easy to catch up with, if you want to toss a few tracts at 'em.... Cautious.

.....that would be "tongue in cheek"......just in case you were wondering. (no offense intended) Here's the serious part:

I would not author letters to secular or pagan organizations (Rome was full of pagans, but Paul never once wrote to them). So that'd exclude any group that did not hold to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Then I'd narrow that down a bit. I wouldn't write in an attempt to correct a the theology of a church to which I did not belong. Paul wrote to churches, but under apostolic authority....which I am not claiming. If I address a local congregation for teaching false doctrine then I am exercising church discipline. I can't do this if I am not at least a part of that assembly. I certainly can't judge the servant of Another, and that isn't my responsibility.

So the only way I could send the letter, and claim biblical ground, is if it were my church. But this would not be in accordance with biblical discipline. First I'd confront the man face to face. If he doesn't repent then I'd take a brother or two. If this doesn't work then I'd take it before the church. He still doesn't repent then he's removed from the church.

That's the biblical method (but be careful....if you find yourself standing alone then you may well be the one removed....heretics rarely believe themselves heretical). Thumbsup

I have heard Way of the Master Podcasts of them trying to witness to false teachers and those of other religions. Mark 16:15.

Avoid secular and pagan organizations? I do not write them anyways.

    You just never know.

This preacher was on Steven L. Anderson's good churches list:

Vacaville pastor responds to stalking, arson allegations

I later read with horror on Zsuzsanna's blog about she and her tots having visited this preacher's church while on vacation in California:

    http://stevenandersonfamily.blogspot.com/2009/03/our-california-vacation_8935.html

"On Wednesday morning, we continued up north. I dropped my husband off at the San Jose airport just after lunch - he was flying home just to preach in our church that night, and coming back early Thursday morning. The kids and I drove another hour north to Vacaville, CA, to go to church"

Thumbsup I misunderstood your post to indicate that you were writing letters to non-Christian organizations like Unitarian Universalists, Roman Catholic churches, Mormons.....organizations that hold a different gospel. I apologize for the misunderstanding and am not sure where I got that notion.

    That didn't answer the question.

This thread is not a debate about my writing and who I write but a question on who is dangerous and one poster provide the answer in the Church of Scientology, case closed.

Actually, I answered your question as well. Not all scientologists are prone to violence; so technically, there is no way to answer your question.

You have to assume that *anyone* you write letters to could be mentally unhinged; and thus, the caution I posted to you in my initial response.

Now the choice is yours: to continue with Matthew 28:19-20, or not.

No, case not closed. I'm now asking for clarification, not debating your writing (I didn't read the letter you posted for reasons I already indicated).

In post #8 you clarified that you do not write to non-Christian groups. If this is true then I don't understand your question about fearing violence from those groups for letters you have not written.

Are you instead asking which churches (true, gospel teaching churches) that you should avoid so that they don’t kill you for writing a letter? If they are true churches, John, then your letters may still be rejected but they will probably not seek to kill you. They may dismiss your letters as disobedience to Scripture (overstepping your bounds in terms of church discipline) and will probably ignore your correction, but since they are brothers in Christ I doubt you need to fear.

I can't follow you here, brother. Who are you speaking of? If you are trying to discipline another church then you are wrong. If you are trying to correct the doctrine of a cult then you are wrong. Help me out a bit here.

@Jon C..., in another post I made reference to the potential of violence. My intent was mere cautionary in nature as there are a multitude of individuals out there in the "real" world that could possibly take offense to any challenge of them and their belief's.

From that comment of mine this specific thread was initiated.

I'm just having difficulty following you on this thread. I've had a headache all day so maybe it's just me, but I'm really not sure what you are asking. All I can say is preach the gospel in and out of season brother.

Maybe I'm just experiencing deja vu, but didn't we have this exact thread a year or two ago?
