I'm sure some of you will jump on me for this, but when a murderer is finally recommended for parole, well, that sure is one more reason for the death penalty.

I know this could only happen in California, the land of fruits, nuts and flakes! And, yes I know they don't refer to Cali as the "left coast" for no reason? But when a parole board can recommend sone one as evil as a Manson family follower for parole based on her saying all the right things following 40 years of 'clean' behavior; there is something wrong with the system. Life sentences were made to be changed as society changes, and for that reason, alone, the death penalty serves society and the memories of victims well!

So go ahead and present your views. But, no name calling please!!! ;)

RD2, if this caveat includes innuendo, sarcasm, judgement calls and/or name calling..., there won't be much response. You do realize that, don't you?

Yeah, that was my intent. Without the name calling, many will have to pass on commenting. That leaves room for views that are thoughtful.and part of a genuine debate, one that doesn't become negative, but rather civil and Christ like. Waiting to see if it is possible.

Does this woman deserve to stay in prison for the rest of her life? Yes, she does. She should never breath free air again.

I am against the death penalty though and here's why,

We are all human and humans make mistakes. An ambiscious prosecutor could overlook evidence by accident or on purpose which could show that the accused is innocent just to get a conviction. A jury could be out for blood for whatever reason and they do not care who gets hurt. Mistaken identity, faulty evidence, whatever, it don't matter. If one innocent person is put to death, it's just not worth it.

Second reason and most importantly, who are we to deny anyone their chance to Salvation? Will a murderer on death row "Get Saved"? It's doubtful but there is that chance like the woman in Texas who was on death row, was Saved and the executed.

I'm sure there are instances where the death penalty is justified though but I can not condone the death penalty because that person just might come to Christ.

My opinion of course and I'm sure there will be many who disagree and that's fine.

Is it possible that not only did he say the right things, but he actually meant them?

It was a SHE, not a he, and if you read about her part she stabbed the victim more than 15 times. We can all learn to say what we think others want to hear, this board is often a good example of that. The fact they may get out, that is wrong.

There is only one reason for the death penalty. It is just. Neither the method thereof nor the heinous degree of the crime should be considered. Only justice.

Just like Cain got the death penalty, all murderers should get the same punishment. Devilish

Uh, he didn't. Cain had great, great, great, grandchildren, so he must have lived a fairly long life. :)

I am not a great proponent of the death penalty as it is presently practiced in the US for a couple reasons.

    1. It is biased. A disproportionately large number of those sentenced to death have either brown or black skin. The lighter complected persons in our country are significantly less likely to receive the death penalty for committing the same crimes.

    2. It is an admission of defeat. We are saying "This person is so badly warped that he is beyond being fixed. It is easier (and cheaper) to just kill him." This is a problem of our own creation. Our social order has been so damaged by the fluff-headed leftists that raising a child biblically, to respect himself and others, is now a crime in many jurisdictions. To biblically correct your erring child may get you thrown in jail. And I won't even address the social garbage being taught in our government school systems, from kindergarten through college!

The fascist "Child Protective Service" of many jurisdictions allow a child to call an 800 number and report their parents for "abuse" regardless of what that "abuse" may be. "No, you can't go to see an "R" rated movie, you are only 13 years old!" "Then I am going to report you! You will really be in trouble!"

And after that phone call is made CPS can legally remove the child from the home without any probable cause, and the parents, in order to get their child back, must appear in court, and prove, to the court's satisfaction, that they are fit parents.

Whatever happened to the concept of the prosecution having to shoulder the burden of proof? Since when did the parent have to shoulder the burden of innocence?

Our justice system is broken. Until it is fixed I would be very hesitant to allow anyone to be put to death under the present badly broken system.

I was trying to use the little devil guy as a signal I was trying to be sarcastic. Nothing wrong with the death penalty except it takes to long to carry out the sentence. They should also only be allowed to use the same methods found in abortion clinics to execute the condemned, and should have it covered live on every network. No blurring, or blacking out allowed.

That is your opinion, and some of us disagree! HOWEVER, I do believe if someone viciously murdered your wife or child and butchered them, cutting them into pieces, you may think a little differently, especially if years later they were up for parole! Of course my hypothetical is based on your being honest in how you respond, and I don't know if you would be honest enough to say any differently than you did in your pointed response! And that isn't sarcasm, it is fact! Whistling

So no one ever changes, and they should never be given the opportunity to change, nor should we ever show mercy or grace. Gotcha.
