Things may get interesting. Mrs. Trump looks to bring a sense of fashion not seen in the White House since Jackie Kennedy. I don't know for sure but I assume with her work on the Paris runways she speaks fluent French. Mrs. Kennedy charmed the kepi off De Gaulle with her French.

Technically, if she speaks Serbian, she also speaks Croatian. They are basically the same spoken language. But Serbian is written with the Cyrillic alphabet and Croation with the Latin.
This means Trump can save taxpayers' money by not needing as many translators. (yes, I'm joking on the last).
According to wiki, citing an article in Vox:

She speaks six languages: her native Slovenian, and Serbian, English, French, Italian and German.

That is not so surprising in that part of the world. Many people speak multiple languages. It is quite amazing to be in a line at a hotel check-in and hear the clerk dealing with tourists in multiple languages.

I remember being at a hotel in Oslo, Norway. I was like the 4th person in line. The clerk immediately changed languages with each person once she heard them speak; French, German, Russian and then in English. I was quite impressed.

??? Why? Because she's a skinny, white woman that American men seem to think is the quintessential measure of what beauty and fashion are?[emoji57]

The White House has had and will have for the next 2.5 to three months more than a sense of fashion in Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama's sense of fashion and style have received continued raves the last 8 years. So clearly understand why the OP gets a side eye.[emoji57]

I agree. I sense a generally higher standard of class and pride is coming our country's way.

BTW, I saw an interview of her and Donald a while back shortly after they got married and I thought she was a doll.

I sense more overt racism and racial prejudice coming our country's way.

The OP and subsequent posts supporting it sounds like something from the 1950s and 60s where only white women were considered beautiful and allowed to grace the covers of certain magazines.

Maybe that's when some of you thought America was "great".[emoji57]

Actually, I was going to hedge my remarks because of Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Reagan each brought in their own way a sense of class to the White House. However, Mrs. Trump brings a certain cosmopolitan air and multiple languages.

And THAT is a much better way of saying it because Mrs. Reagan was a classy lady and a classy dresser. Sneaky as she wanted to be, but classy nonetheless.

Michelle Obama's fashion has been equally classy while being chic and appealing and approachable for all demographics.

However, I was going beyond how a First Lady dressed. Mrs. Kennedy's White House had to recover from FDR's WW2 austerity, Mrs. Truman's desire to live in Independence, and Mrs. Eisenhower's dowdiness. Thanks to Mrs. Obama's class, Mrs. Trump isn't going to have to do as much heavy lifting as Mrs. Kennedy. But, again I will bring up her cosmopolitan sense. Which the White House hasn't seen since Mrs. Kennedy.

This has got to be one of the silliest "debates" ever...so naturally I'll wade right in.

OP said Melania Trump will "bring to the White House" a fashion sense. Well, yes, because she is/was a model. Michelle Obama's fashion sense was acquired while in the White House. I would also say that Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan also brought their fashion sense with them.

Sounds like a prejudice you carry around with you, finding race in everything. No one said anything about Michelle Obama's appearance, or even hinted at it not being adequate for magazine covers.

Cosmopolitan is more about the full package. She seems to, like her husband, to lack the intelligence or erudition that is associated with being cosmopolitan.

I mean seriously. The lady has said she wants to take a stand against bullying as first lady.[emoji23] Really? Is this a cry out for her son? Has Donald slapped him in front of his friends too?

I'd say that you misjudge Michelle Obama on whether she is cosmopolitan or not. I think she is. She seems very comfortable with people from other countries and cultures. I expect Mrs. Trump is also. We will have to wait and see how that bears out.

I do not think that Donald Trump is cosmopolitan at all.

Sounds like a blindness you and others carry. Nothing had to be said about her appearance or it not being adequate for magazine covers.

I swear some of you, even when well intentioned, are so blind to the racism implications of what you're doing and saying because you never think about much of anything from the perspective that non-white people have to on a day to day basis.

And after Michelle Obama has received nothing but accolades and compliment after compliment the last 8 years for her style, forgive me if I clearly see the racial overtures in the OP that harken back to the 50s and 60s.

Unlike a majority of the white people in this country, I interact with people of color on a daily basis. I don't have the luxury of ignoring the obvious racial implications when things are said because kids don't miss it.
