The Most Basic "Problem" With Tattoos

Hello All. I read somewhere on the Baptist Board that one member has no problems with tattoos, just not in his family. Which got me to thinking. Since God ordered the Hebrews not to get tattoos, and we know that our All-Perfect God never changes, doesn't that prohibition carry over to the Gentiles?

The verse in question is found in Leviticus 19:28. It is a clear Command from God, a prohibition not to be ignored.

And shouldn't Christians avoid tattoos too?

Just wondering.

I was the one that said I thought tattoos were OK, just not in my family.

If you accept Lev. 19:28 as applying to Christians, what about the other verses in Leviticus 19, like verse 27?

27 “‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."

or verse 19

19 “‘Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."

This chapter was written for the Israelites, as can be seen in verse 1.

Yeah, and nowadays a church can even use tattooing to raise money for its sister mission in New Guinea!

Church's Tattoo Fundraiser

"Apologia member Thad Pinch had a Greek 'Chi-Rho' symbol tattooed on his arm in the ministry’s studio, as a tattoo artist from the congregation had offered his services to help raise funds"

"Apologist James White, Pinch’s father-in-law, became especially vocal about the matter, advising that he had paid for Pinch’s tattoo, and that while he personally despises beer, he drinks part of a Smirnoff Ice each night as a sleep aid."

"'[T]here is a reason Thad was getting a chi-rho. I have a chi-rho. My son Joshua is getting a chi-rho. And Thad wanted to get a chi-rho as well,' White wrote in a blog post on the matter. 'Originally it was a discussion we had over Christmas, that we would all get chi-rhos, since Josh is my son, and Thad is my son-in-law.'"

I don't think that they are necessarily sinful but I can think of 2 reasons why I would not want to get one. Let me repeat, these are reasons why I, myself, would not get one. First of all I think that they are worldly and we should not love worldly things. This is a discipline that I consciously work on, and still have a long ways to go. Second, I feel that my body is not mine to do with as I please. I am a steward of this body and I try to take care of it. Once again, I have a ways to go. I didn't come with any tattoos so I'm not going to add any. I am not remotely judgmental about it and can't be dogmatic about it because I'm sure someone could pick my life apart too.

Smirnoff Ice? Really?

So Mike's Hard Lemonade and Smirnoff Ice.

What is it with Calvinists and fake alcoholic girly fruit drinks?
