Those who were saved were purchased back to God by His shed blood, correct?

Do you have any scriptural support for that assertion?

2Pe_2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

That is usually because you read what they write with your "anti-calvinist" filters firmly in place.

You conflate general benefits of the crucifixion, which are for all mankind, and the specific soteriological benefits of the atonement, which are specific to believers.

Alright, let me see a show of hands...how many people in here own a CSB Study Bible, or plan on getting one.

I try to look at it with no filter.
Did you listen to the sermon I linked? I believe you and Macarthur disagree.

I'm sorry but that is naive. We all have filters through which we see everything. :)

I don't really care. John MacArthur is not my Savior nor is he the Holy Spirit. And I am not sure we disagree. You may have just read into what he said something you think I disagree with. :)

I have one I received for attending the ETS annual meeting last November. Fairly good translation, but I would appreciate it more if it were based on the Byzantine textform. :)

Best thing to do is buy a Bible that has no commentary, is written in paragraph form and deemphasizes the verse separations. In that way a person can read the Bible in context rather than look for verses as prooftexts for an opinion they already hold.

You seem like a prooftext person to me, mitchell.

Again, did you listen to the sermon?
I am not saying you are wrong and he is right. I am trying to point out that the Calvinistic theologians of the SBC can not even agree on the implications of Calvinism. I am considering you and he to both be respected theologians.

I said "try" to not use filter.

Nope. Get a Bible with the least amount of commentary. Read the Bible. Write down what you observe. Write down every question the passage brings up. Try to answer those questions by writing down your interpretation. Lastly, check other opinions to see where they agree and where they disagree. If no one agrees with you, your opinion is wrong.
Move to the next passage. Repeat.
Any layperson can do this. It is, in my opinion, the best way to understand a passage and understand how others came to their conclusions.

The Thompson has no commentary though, as it uses the scriptures themselves as running commentary!
