Over the last seventeen years, I've learned to pick and choose the posts I respond to. If you note, I'm just pocket change over 10,000 posts.

I am sorry to have offended anyone. That is not my intention. We all have our own opinions and paradigms.

    Peace.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Amd if I do, you'll object for that reason. And then this reason. It's a beautiful day outside Go out and sit by the pool. Have a beer. Enjoy the sunshine.

Calvary Chapel is a bunch of Arminian charismatic liberals. Those of us in the SBC who hold to Biblical doctrine are already having a hard time keeping liberalism at bay. We don't need to invite more of them in.

And, no, I don't care if you believe that or agree with it or not. So don't waste your breath.

According to the CC webpage - Harvest Fellowship is still listed as a CC.

Which begs the question - Should a Church of the SBC also be a member of other National bodies?

Sorry to not float your boat, but I don't drink alcohol. But feel free to lift up a second one in my name!

As for your views of Harvest vs SBC, you may have solid ground to protest on, but how much of your protest is doctrinal and not snobbery?

I understand your concerns, given the history of the Calvary Chapel churches. Given that it's a loose association of churches, and has suffered a split, I suppose that each church should be examined on its own merits.

The fact is that most Southern Baptist churches I've attended have been Arminian in fact, if not in confession.

    Encyclopedia of Evangelicalism

"One day in 1970, he happened to stumble across a meeting conducted by hippie evangelist Lonnie Frisbee on the lawn of the Newport Harbor High School....Frisbee quoted a passage where Jesus stated, "you are either for me or against me"....Laurie dropped to the ground and started immediately to speak in tongues....from that day forward, Laurie's aspiration to become an evangelist like Frisbee never wavered....Laurie, who has no formal theological training, took over a congregation of three hundred in 1972 that had been started by Frisbee at All Saints Episcopal Church in Riverside"

There is nothing wrong with speaking in tongues. It is as Biblically correct as your assumptions that it isn't. I've been a board member since 2007, and never once have I JUDGED ANY OF YOU FOR NOT SPEAKING IN TONGUES. NEVER ONCE have I pushed the idea of, or need for anyone on this board to consider seeking God for the gift of tongues.

In my 35+ years of knowing Greg Laurie, have I ever heard him push or teack on tongues; nor have I ever heard anyone in his church speak about Greg teaching tongues, or personally using tongues.

Furthermore, the complaint coming out of those who moved on from Harvest and Lauries teaching was their individual needs to seek a more charismatic church that spoke in tongues and moved in the gifts.

As for me, my tongues are a form of prayer. I also move in prophetic prayer. That hasn't made me better then you who don't have these gifts, or me less than you. I still believe in the SBC doctrines, and would never do anything to offend a brother or sister in Christ, let alone JUDGE anyone who doesn't move in the same realm of gifts as me. We are all unigue in Jesus, carrying many gifts given by Him to us, and these gifts, when working together make the church body more effective for getting out the Word and leading others to Jesus.

I don't get the FEAR of certan gifts that come from many of you. If you knew me, you'd never know the gifts I move in, because I follow the teaching that the gufts never be used to exalt anyone but Christ. I know there will be some nasty messages regarding my disclosure, but, that is on those who decide to respond out of ignorance or fear. But the truth is, there will be a day, when, like Laurie, you too will fall on your face before the King of Kings, and maybe speak in a new tongue, because in heaven, I doubt seriously id the new, enhanced and glorified body we are given will SPEAK IN ENGLISH.

    Shalom.

Name one person on the BB who fears the proper understanding of the gifts of the Spirit.

    Preach it Ted! Preach it!

I knew the naysayers would rise up, so let the tongue lashing come! You believe your way. I believe mine, and I fail to understand why we can't agree to disagree, without slamming one another???

So, let me get this straight, Ted?! You are saying that God, the God of the Bible, can't give us this gift? Now who is calling God a liar? There is nothing He can't, or won't do in order to bless others as well as lift up His name!

I do not use this gift for any other purpose then to praise God, as well as to pray at times. I certainly do not BRAG about the gift, and my comments above are not bragging, just explaining my stand on the topic of this OP! I do not use this gift to shine a light on me. I do not use this gift around others, in an effort to not offend!

But, I believe God still does miracles. Answers prayer. Saves the lost. Comfort us and others in times of need. I believe my God is greater then the ability of men and their understandings, Ted, and that He can and will use gifts mentioned in both the OT and NT, if it furthers His will and His plan to get people saved! I don't understand everything, Ted, so I do not choose to question things that are blessings to others, and tongues are blessings to Baptists as well as the charismatic believers, which is why I would never make the bold judgments you have made to and about me because I happen to believe God still, sparingly, and in certain situations, imparts this gift!

I was a non believer of the gift for years, but, I can no longer deny the gift, since He imparted it upon my heart. I follow the teachings of Paul when it comes to this gift, and I never blow my own horn, show off, or use this gift in a place where it may cause another to trip. I use it in my prayer closet, Ted, and I would hope that you stop trying to convince me, others and even yourself, that YOU are right and I am wrong!

I happen to believe, because I have seen it first hand; tongue blessed believers seem to be less judgmental then those who do not accept the possibility that what God did at Pentecost, and other times in the OT and NT, He can no longer impart to those who choose to believe He can impart this gift, along with other gifts, so His church can be stronger and more enlightened, in the darkness of this world!

In short, Ted, I believe! And even thought you don't, I am not judging you and telling you that you are less blessed then me for not having this gift! You go your way, and let those of us who do believe in this gift, go ours. Nothing you say will change who I am and what I hold as true! And nothing I say will change your mind! So, let's agree to disagree, and accept one another as brothers through the blood shed on the cross!

Just a dumb kibbitz: Why is there little if any record of speaking in (other) tongues before Azusa St.--early 20th century, LAX?
Curiously: many of the modern day religious dupers(televangelists) are making megabucks using "spiritual gifts". The triangle has been changed to four squares. Author: the master deceiver.

Jesus said He would never leave nor forsake His little flock. Pentacostalism makes Jesus a liar. Now what? The Apostasy continues.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
