It seems like to some, that the Holy Spirit does not indwell individual believers.

After all, “ye” is always plural.

So, when it says, “know you not that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit” it only applies to the assembly.

No leading, no peace, no witness, no Christ, nothing at all for the individual believer.

Does anyone see the foolishness of such thinking?

    Christ lives in me.

    The Holy Spirit indwells me

I am personally guided by the Holy Spirit.

I, as an individual member of the assembly am just as much the temple of the Holy Spirit as any other individual believer.

All believers are the temple, for each believer has the Holy Spirit indwelling!

That some do not have such in their lives is truly sad.

Singulars and plurals are so different bless my soul.
Has is ever occurred to you that the plural of half is whole. Alan Sherman

The singulars and plurals are put in scripture for a reason. Where does it say in scripture, "You is"

The following scripture says that the comforter will abide with us.
    • John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
The singular of 'You are' is 'Thou art' If God had meant that He would have said so.

Again, your thinking is weak, because if I were to follow what you suggest, the results are as I stated - the believer is given and has no indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Either the individual believer is in dwelt with the Holy Spirit and therefore a temple of the Holy Spirit, or the believer is not as an individual a temple and does not have the Holy Spirit indwelling.

One cannot have the statement read one way and not have the results of the reading.

Therefore, the logical conclusion of your view is that the only time the Holy Spirit is present is when a group of believers gather.

I am not saying that. There may be scriptures that support you, but I can't think of any. But those I have quoted certainly don't support your point of view, The last verse I posted may.

    Jesus said
    • Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Doesn't mean he is not with us all the time, but in a special way when meeting with other believers to worship him.

Ultimately, you then you must hold that there is no indwelling of the Holy Spirit in individual believers.

Joh 14:17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

2Co_1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

    I agree,

But David’s thinking seems to be that each of these Scriptures use the plural and cannot then be to the individual.

It is in that view’s extrapolation that then the Holy Spirit does not in dwell the individual believer.

You and I agree that the sealing, keeping, peace, fruits, ... are direct results of the Holy Spirit abiding and thriving in each individual believer. That work, magnified in the believer, molds the believer, presenting them as fitted (think of militarily outfitted) for both the assembly and mission. Just as that soldier is fit and outfitted for the support of both unit and mission.

1 plural does not apply to the individual
2 plural does not apply to the individual
3 That could apply to the indididual

    Applies to the church,
    • 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
If it applied to the individual, it would say something like

Know thee not that thy body is a temple of the Holy Ghost.

    Or

Know ye not that your bodies are temples of the Holy Ghost.

But as it stands, it cannot refer to the individual, only to the corporate body, The Church.

Well, as you read his thinking displayed in posts, it is an accurate portrait.

It applies to the individuals of the church. Paul was speaking to more than one person. Each individual of the whole church. The word body is a reference to the individual physical body of people. Your interpretation is just weird and would not be understood that way by the plain reading of that passage.

You want to rely on what you consider more authoritative, I want to rely on what is more authoritative.

According to your own posts, what matters so little to you is the individual work of the Holy Spirit in individuals, so that when those individuals assemble they may individually contribute as God has granted them the ability, individually, thereby the whole assembly benefits with no one puffed up or someone claiming some special gift, but all contributing as God has purposed, individually.

Why would I ever even consider to desire to replace that which is personal and perfect with what you offer which is impersonal and imperfect?
