One more reason why I can't be Southern Baptist

I agree wholeheartedly with the SBC on this point, and I also agree that you should not attend an SB church.

Yes, you are apparently the "new" Southern Baptist, the kind that no longer affirms or permits soul liberty. The SBC should take the 'B' out of their name. They are now more dictatorial than the RCC.

Thankfully, the SBC went back to its roots.

Get over yourself. No one cares what church you go to. The doctrine of soul Liberty has been abused to support every abominable doctrine under the sun.

Compare the 2000 BF&M with the 1963 BF&M, and you'll see that your statement is not true. Before the fundamentalist takeover, more than one view of the atonement was allowed, and soul liberty was upheld.

Before the conservative resurgence our seminary graduates were coming out of our seminaries believing that very little of the bible was actually true.

Praise God for restoring a seminary.

There is only one baptism of (more correctly 'in') the Holy Spirit, but some folk quench the Spirit more or less than others, some grieve the Spirit, some walk in the Spirit more or less than others. We are actually commanded to be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18) which suggests that it is possible for Christians to be less than filled at times.

The resolution has the same force as most resolutions: None.

Here is how the SBC governs the churches: They don't! Each and every SBC church is autonomous.

The only thing the Convention can do is disfellowhip a church that proves to be heterodox. And that is extremely rare.

The resolution is overstatement and reactionary (like the resolution to ban the rebel flag and the crusade against Calvinists).

Not presently. I was thinking of attending and possibly joining the SBC church that I grew up in and my father was a deacon in. But I don't know if I can, holding the beliefs I now hold.
The resolutions are not binding to local churches. I suggest evaluating each church and not worrying so much about the resolutions. You will find a diverse collections of churches within the SBC.

Thanks. That's what I'll do. Although around here, the churches are mostly the same, from what I know of them.
