So are you saying there may have been additional generations - not listed?

We know there are gaps in the ethnologies. The same ethnology in two different places in the bible have some different names between entries.

Speculation about "cavemen" - let us not forget that birds, with a tiny brain, unable to read a single word, unable to say a single word, barely having enough "smarts" to escape a cat wanting to eat them, weave complex nests that a human macrame or knitting expert, couldn't duplicate. Same for spiders making complex webs. So, who's to say God didn't make primates with hands, able to use fire or draw, while not being men at all?

OTOH, the farthest object we can see with the unaided eye is the Andromeda Galaxy, so far away it takes light over a million years to reach us from it. I believe God has allowed us to determine the speed of light & roughly measure the distance to celestial objects for a reason. I believe this indicates an age for the universe much-greater than 10,000 years.

If we are indeed "alone" in the universe and the earth is the theological center of the universe (where The Word became flesh) then God could have stretched the light beams from Andromeda to reach us to be seen by mankind.

Isaiah 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

Even more likely the primal universe was designed outside the time continuum in such a way that we see the universe as mature yet not in our time oriented reality.

e.g. Adam under the same schema was created as a mature man in a moment of "time".
ibid the wine at the wedding at Cana, the fish at the feeding of the 5000.

    Just saying.

God created the lights in the sky for a purpose. "To give light upon the earth." It would be pretty stupid to make the stars to shine on the earth then forget the make the light between the star and the earth.

Well, fellers, I reckon it's one of those now-unfathomable mysteries that shall be revealed to us some day.

There is nothing heretical about the Gap theory,
    BUT...
...its abuse of Biblical Hebrew is grammatically flawed
...its abuse of physical evidence is scientifically flawed

The Gap Theory was an early attempt to explain the world we observe and align it with what the bible says about how the world was made.

Being wrong doesn't make it heretical - just wrong.

Yes. I spent several hours with him in San Antonio last year at the ETS annual meeting. Even in his 80's the man's mind is extraordinary.
