My wife and I visited NYC this week, finishing the trip by visiting the site of the 9/11 attack in the city.
The weather was in the mid-30's with a touch of snow.

We thought the memorial was jarringly stark, matching the atmosphere of the exhibit in winter.

No but my sister and her husband 25th anniversary did and they say it was so sad and silent you could hear a pin drop. Want to see this badly myself!

Made it about a year and a half ago. Did you go inside the museum?

No, I only crossed the Mason Dixon one time. I swore I would never do it again.

The museum was interesting, worthwhile... but I don’t think I’d do it again.
Some items of interest and many remarkable stories
I’ve heard many first hand reports from friends and acquaintances
Aimed at those who were born after the event, I’d presume.

I was most curious about what people thought about the outdoor memorial.

Sobering, ominous, made me think of those lost, falling into a deep abyss...sad.

Defining yourself by a hundred-year-old feud, and along a two hundred year old line?
    You’re missing out.

No, there's plenty in the south and the west for me.

I've been to the memorial and it is just too hard. We lost a friend and almost lost many other friends and have other friends who are being affected by the aftermath of working the pile. No way am I going to be able to go to the museum anytime soon. We live close enough to Ground Zero to have smelled it late on that Tuesday and we couldn't leave the house on Wednesday because of the very strong acrid odor in the air. :(

Then you will never see the beautiful Atarondacks (sp) or visit the rocky coast of New England or seen the Vermont dairy farms or seen the Autumn leaf changes of NYS and NE, or ridden the wintry trails of NY on a snowmobile or seen the DuPont Longwood Gardens (with the lighted fountains and nightly concerts) or toured the Hudson River and seen the old guard mansions, or been to Newport RI for a good jazz festival, or seen the artwork museums of Manhattan or the Planetarium but I’m not a tourist guide... these are in my reach and I love every one of them.

I have plenty of mountains around here and in Colorado where I travel regularly. Have too many dairy farms here. I don't like the type art you will see on museums. The fountains at the Bellagio in Vegas gave me my fill of fountains. I am happy on the river catching catfish. Even happier in the woods hunting.
Now, I do like to go to Providenciales every now and again. When you can see the Southern Cross, you know you are pretty far South.

You don't have to worry. I have no intention of leaving The South.

Actually, have crossed the Mason Dixon twice. I was not counting touring all the border state battlefields.

I tend to avoid the south and instead vacation in the Bahamas or Hawaii. There are tons of mountains in Pennsylvania and NY to hunt in as well as golf courses and I can ski there as well w/I 45 minutes

That's the thing. It was all about money with y'all 150 years ago and its still all about money with you today. You might figure out one day that life is not about money.
