What do you think Jesus means by this? I think he means if we do love him more than them, and love them less = hate, we cannot be his disciple.

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” (Romans 12:19) (KJV 1900)

39.33 ἐκδικέωb; ἐκδίκησιςb, εως f: to repay harm with harm, on the assumption that the initial harm was unjustified and that retribution is therefore called for—‘to pay back, to revenge, to seek retribution, retribution, seeking retribution.’

It is much more complicated than that and you cannot quote one verse and expect to conclude the subject. Everything has been paid for in blood. This country has been paid for in blood and Jesus paid with His blood. Your pacifist point applies to you only because you cannot force everyone to accept your point of view unless you use violence.

Very well, but it was you who inserted "follow Jesus to the letter," wasn't it?

Yes, but how do we do this? By loving him more than we do our own lives. And taking the cross over the sword in following him.

I appreciate your sentiments, but Jesus taught non violence. And to submit to the whatever civil magistrate happens to be in power. But all of the kingdoms of the world belong to Satan up to a point, and we have no business fighting his wars for him. Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world.

So you are a anti - Nazi Christian Pole living in occupied Poland and you know that when the authorities make a call up for workers that all who comply will be loaded on trains and sent to a death camp and you still stick around and be led to the slaughter?

No thanks, I think I would have headed out to the woods, get me a weapon and fight for my life with like minded people. If I am going to die at least I'd go down fighting and take some of them with me. There would be nothing evil or sinful in doing that and on the other side my words to God would have been: "I did what I had to do and I am prepared for your judgement'.

Then we don't do it by following Jesus to the letter. Nice change of position.

Chasing merchants out with a whip and overturning their tables with animals-- on at least 2 different occasions-- is teaching nonviolence?

Every soul is subject to the higher powers. You say the magistrate is not a soul?

But, look what it says. Rulers are not a terror to good works, and they execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

The moment he is a terror to good works (including the preaching of the Gospel), and that he uses the sword to coerce those who do good, he is not a ruler. He is a tyrant. And we are not commanded to submit to tyranny.

But you know that, and you don't care. You are interested in your agenda.

Will you attest you are not the member formerly known as Crabtownboy?
