Most of us would say don't yoke with a woman smarter than you for that means she knows she has a husband dummer than she.
Now how can the man be the head of his family when she knows how dummer than she. Ahah had this problem with Jez. She thought rings around him. To be yoked to a worshipper of another God negates the possibility of intimacy and intimacy in the Christian home is the foundation of family. Without intimacy between two followers of Christ we can not propitgate the faith in the lives of our children. Look at the suffering of Ahab as he danced to his wife' tune. Two hearts united in Christ is only yoke endorsed in the book. We are urged to look before we leap. What about pastors lead them. We used to refuse to ritually join them. What would happen if we refused in today's world? Let us not yoke to women or men if the world who are not of us.

John was the last OT prophet. The New Covenant did not begin until the crucifixion. We do things differently now.

Interesting. I don't think I ran across these examples in my studies yet. Do you think it is OK to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in some cases?

the biblical example sof being unequally yoked would be in a marriage , or in a business partnership, but do not think that extends to all areas of relationships!

You might want to follow the whole thread, the discussion is about how broad or narrow the command should be taken.

I found a ton of relevant scriptures that helped my understanding:

Jesus clearly calls us to treat our neighbor as we normally would our friends (Luke 10:25-37).

Other believers are supposed to be as close as family to us (Matthew 12:46-50).

We are commanded to choose our friends carefully (Proverbs 12:26).

Jesus considered his actual friends to be those who obeyed Him, thus genuine disciples (John 15:14).

We are not to be a companion of fools (Proverbs 13:20), and we are to drive off scoffers (Proverbs 22:10). The biblical definition of fool being different from the one in a modern dictionary (5. The Fool (Proverbs 26:1-11)).

This may explain Jesus' usually harsh treatment of the scribes and religious leaders of his day to their faces. I can attest to the fact in my scoffing and foolish days, isolation because of my beliefs was healing ultimately. It seems similar to the command to enact church discipline.

We are told not to have bad company, because it corrupts our character (1 Corinthians 15:33). This seems similar to the warning to not befriend fools in Proverbs.

Regardless of who our friends are, we must never become worldly, for that is to be God's enemy (James 4:4).

For me all of this indicates that our relationships are more complicated than I first figured. However, I do feel what I missed was that I am treat my "neighbors," who are the people all around me in life, as friends. Of course, I go out of my way to spend time with those who want my company, in order to learn from me or understand me. They are my neighbors and deserve such.

I also have to shed the wall of distrust and hostility that is between me and other believers, in order to recognize that you guys are family to me.

I will carefully pick my friends, which at the very least means not befriending fools or scoffers. However, I will have to reflect on this aspect of who I make as friends, which really biblically seems to be the equivalent of family, of brothers and sisters, mothers and elders. I will post my concluding thoughts after further meditation on the Word.

I feel far greater peace now, having combed through the bible and come to an understanding that makes things make sense.

I think so. Any time you submit to an unbeliever you are walking after their flesh. You are letting a carnal mind tell you what to do instead of Christ. And under oath to boot. You not only disobey Christ, you make yourself liable for punishment. Is it treason to follow Christ's command to love enemies in both the magistrate's office and in the military?

If you cannot lay up treasure for yourself, why shoot someone for robbing those who lay up treasure? If you are to forsake all, why kill, so others can keep their treasure? How do you give aid and comfort to the enemy in the Christian sense without committing treason? Yet Jesus tells us to do just that....

This is the popular view, but Paul did not limit it this.

“Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you, And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:14–18)

Having friends is not being bound to them legally.

Would being in the Military or part of a non Christian business be binding you to them?

I think Paul forbids all legal entanglements with unbelievers.

He did not tell soldiers to stop being in the Military though! neither did jesus, and the Centurions in the NT were all spoken of kindly!
And so I could not be a UAW member and work for Ford or GM?

Being unequally yoked to unbelievers covers much area. I think if we want a closer walk we will not become entangled with them and put them in what is rightfully God's place in our agreements with them.
