What are your thoughts regarding this newest updated version of the HCSB?

I got a super-giant print(16 point) reference, thumb-indexed one for less than $30(okay, it was like $29.98 S&H included, so its under 30 bucks :) ) and I am thoroughly enjoying as I read through the gospels. I am in Mark right now.

Thoughts? 'Pinions?

I am a fan. Read through the whole thing last year. I'm reading through the LEB this year, and I have to say that for reading through large sections, a translation like the CSB is much easier since it flows more naturally.

Are there a few places where I would change it if I was general editor for a day? Sure, but I think that, barring our kjvo brethern, that would apply to all us.

I gave one to my grandson on his 18th birthday. I checked it out first, of course, and, like Rob there are some places where I might have made a different word choice, and I would have included Byzantine variants in the main body of the text, but other than that I found it to be a good, readable, translation.

The same could be said of the NIV. For the most part, it looks like the CSB mimicked the NIV. It follows along the same path as the ISV which copycatted GW translation.

Lifeway needed to make more money.

True, but in some ways still not as much gender inclusive, as this article spells it out pretty well!
The HCSB is now the CSB. What’s the difference?
As I have pointed out to you numerous times --you need to read your links.

The author states that the CSB is "almost as gender-neutral as the NIV."

If there are only a few percentage points of difference between these two translations when it comes to inclusive language --it really doesn't add up to a hill of beans.

Before the publication of the CSB the NET was closest to the NIV generally. And quite similar with respect to gender language. Now the CSB is even closer to the NIV in that regard. A bit more inclusive language is used in the NLT.

The NET, CSB, NIV and NLT are clustered together in the arena of inclusive language.

If you want to make a case of differences or a marked departure you'll have to do it on a whole other basis.

Lifeway wanted to make more money so they did a needless update.
Have you read it? If yes, do you like it? Hate it?

You’re trying to derail the topic of the OP. Please stay on point.

This is not an “axe to grind with Lifeway” thread. Please stay on point. PLEASE!

I have read most of it. Not enough difference between it and HCSB to warrant its publication. My opinion is Lifeway published it to stimulate sales. If you like the HCSB, you will like the CSB.

Thank you for your honest opinion. Do you like both of them? What I have read of them, they seem pretty solid.

I like both of them. I really can't tell much difference. HCSB is my go to modern translation. I spend more of my time in KJV though.

The CSB made a substantial number of improvements over its predecessor, as did the 2011NIV over the 1984 product. In both cases the newer editions were needed and necessary.

Needed and necessary? That's funny right there. Is the English language antiquating Its self every 15 years?

I picked up a free copy at a conference last year. I found what I felt was a serious error in it and was going to chuck it out, but I have given it a reprieve and glance at it from time to time. It is better than the 2011 NIV but is still too gender-inclusive for me. I shall stick to my trusty NKJV.

I've forgotten what the error was, but I'm sure @Rippon will tell you if you ask him.
