In the middle of August of 2018, President Russell Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, asked that the word Mormon or Church of the Latter-day Saints and the initials LDS no longer be used for Joseph Smith's cult but that they be called only The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Hence the long name for the title of this thread.

“What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”

― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issues new name guidelines, dropping terms Mormon, LDS in most uses

But to the purpose of this thread with a long name. Are you yourself interested in Christian apologetics? Do you know of the Utah Lighthouse Ministry with Jerald and Sandra Tanner?

An app has been released for your cellphone that contains the important books of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is free and it is called "Gospel Facts." It is terrific. Sandra Tanner (her husband Jerald is deceased) had Brigham Young as her great-great grandfather so she knows Mormonism inside and out and probably is the greatest US expert on that subject ever.

Here is a link to the app Gospel Facts that Utah Lighthouse Ministry released:

Unless I am mistaken, I seem to remember reading that Utah Lighthouse Ministry is located just a 'stones-throw' from the LDS temple in Salt Lake City. This must irritate many church leaders who would probably pass by often. I had contacted them and asked for a list of the publications on how to best witness to LDS youngsters when they came calling. They sent me booklets and pamphlets without even first asking for a donation. I believe I read the husband had passed but his wife is still continuing the mission work.

The Tanners had peace with the Mormons because Jerald published that the Salamander papers were phoney long before even the Mormons knew. Sandra Tanner is still working and she is the greatest expert on Mormonism ever.

Download the app Gospel Facts on your phone. It includes a link to the bookstore website www.utlm.org

Great news, asa the Mormons have been last few years trying their very best to get viewed and accepted as being just another Christian church, when the truth is a Cult!

It was only a year or two ago that I heard a Mormon on the radio admitting that the Book of Mormon was by a false prophet, that is, that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, yet he still clung to the church Smith founded.

I think that would be due to him being blinded by Satan to the truth!

But it’s still a big step in the right direction. And if he were still accepted after openly expressing this within that church, then that would be a big step in the right direction for the entire church. It doesn’t mean I would recommend anyone stay there or become a member, but it does suggest that respectful, effective dialog might be possible. Maybe even some on here would have the patience and tact.

The big problem is still the Mormon church teaches another and false Jesus and Gospel!

You know Mormonism is so corrupt that one hardly knows where to begin. The app Gospel Facts for a cell phone has an article about 3,913 changes to the Book of Mormon.

There is a lot of information about how corrupt the Temple endowment ceremony was and is.

I was really astonished when I watched Doris Hanson's TV program for this week and she talked about how some Mormon bishops (not all) are asking young girls about sex and shaming and blaming them for what young boys do to them. Mormonism just seems hopeless from Joseph Smith till now.

Interesting that the "true church" misheard from God for longest time about Blacks being able to become Mormon priests, and misunderstood history and data in the Bible also all these years!

Yes, and they are just now cleaning up some of that language. When you are filthy rich, you get away with a lot of crimes.

Mormons believe in Progressive Revelation, so the sitting 'prophet ' of the time can declare a teaching or prophecy of another time to be incorrect. Here is a quote from Jared Cannon, a Mormon who commonly defends LDS doctrine:

"The prophets were wrong about blacks and the priesthood; they might be wrong about women and the priesthood or homosexual marriage; obviously it would be a good thing if they were wrong, because (need it even be stated, much less argued?) more equality (progressively defined) is always better."

I think the LDS org will soon be making changes to it's teachings to make it more appealing and inclusive.

Thank you! Excellent point!

This always having a prophet is why President Nelson can force the name change and try to do away with the word Mormon. They have changed their scripture some 3,913 times.

Of course, they contradict The Holy Bible, as you know, which says that the message of Salvation was completely given almost 2,000 years ago:

Jude 1:3 (KJV) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort [you] that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

True Apostles and True prophets when they spoke for God though did not have to ever backtrack, or get hearing aids, or a different set of glasses!

Trouble with the word "Mormons" is, it has an extra "m" in the middle.

BTW, has anyone reading this ever read the "Joseph Smith KJV" & can point out any differences between it and a regular KJV? (I have not.)

Here is an example of how the J.S. Version differs from a real translation: John

CHAPTER 1

1 In the beginning was the gospel preached through the Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God.
