I'm really sorry to hear that Squire, he was a brother I really cherished and loved... He will truly be missed... Brother Glen:Cry

    His loss is Heavens gain!

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Brother TCassidy leaves shoes that will be hard to fill. While many took him to be a bit of curmudgeon. In fact, he was more like that Oxford\Cambridge don who when asked to pass the butter could only do so with a discourse on the Cornish butter industry.

Man, my heart is breaking as I read this. I learned much from him.

we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.[2 Corinthians 5:8]

I truly believe he longed for this day and he found it.

Prayers & condolences for all his family & friends. I learned a lot from him over the years. But we who miss him can draw some comfort from the fact that he's in paradise now, never to suffer any more pain again. I'm sure Jesus rewarded him well for his service.

Maybe he was a lovable curmudgeon. He did not much care for playing games and he was passionate and decisive about what he believed. I profited much from my interactions with him.

God has gifted his church with teachers, and I'll cherish the instruction I received from TCassidy, a man I was never able to meet face to face.

I found this from some years ago when he retired:

First Baptist of Spring Valley, California

    "Pastor Thomas Cassidy
Thomas Cassidy was born in Altadena, California but brought up in the Midwest. Following high school, he served in the military until 1972. Two years later, in 1974, he was saved through the ministry of First Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. God called him to the gospel ministry shortly after and he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend Central Seminary from 1975-1978."

"In February of 1976, while in seminary, Tom married Bonnie Hanson. In 1978, they returned to Rockford, Illinois, and served with the Windsor Baptist Church in Loves Park until the late 1980’s when they relocated to California. They ministered at the Fundamental Baptist Church in Escondido (San Diego’s north county area) until Tom was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Spring Valley in September of 1985."

"Thomas Cassidy...led the church to new growth in the 1990’s with a high attendance of over 120. San Diego Baptist Bible Institute was started and during the 20 years of its existence, over 50 men were trained for the gospel ministry. Spring Valley Baptist Academy was started in 1988 and grew to approximately 60 students."

"Tom and Bonnie have purchased a home in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley of South Texas where they intend to thoroughly enjoy their retirement years."

TCassidy was a man with a wide spectrum of skills and experiences. He was certain of his beliefs and was more than happy to tell you about them. He did not suffer fools gladly. I've missed him these past couple of months and look forward to meeting him in glory.

Whenever I get on Baptistboard.com Cassidy is the first face I think of. I thought he owned the place. Town Sheriff. I love him.

Part of me hopes they don't reveal too much in heaven......I want to debate again. But if they do I hope he throws crumbs our way.

I have known Dr Cassidy personally for the past 10 years, and between email exchanges and meeting for dinner in both California and Texas gained the greatest respect for him, even if we did not always see eye to eye on all matters. Our last face to face encounter was when he attended the Evangelical Theological Society in San Antonio a couple of years ago, where we had a pleasant meal and conversation, including his even then developing health matters. He will be sorely missed, but I await a pleasant reunion in the Lord's good timing.

Oh, I didn't know he passed. I knew he was gravely ill, but was not aware that he had already gone home. He's rejoicing now! My prayers for his family.

Of all of us left on the Baptistboard, regular poster or semi-regular...…...one of us is next. And age has nothing to do with it.

How will WE portray Christ here online until that time?

I am shocked. I didn't even know he was failing in health. Respected him greatly and learned much from his posts. I certainly will miss his presence on this forum as I always looked forward to reading his posts. Our loss, heaven's gain.
