Never met him in real life, but I enjoyed his presence here and I will continue to miss him. He sounds like he had an awesome life, I realize he is in a better place, but my condolences to all his friends and family. Hopefully, we will meet again.

I'd been wondering how he was doing being concerned about the tough road ahead that he faced but it appears that the Lord has taken him quickly and had mercy on him. Rest in Peace.

I found this from some years ago when he retired:

First Baptist of Spring Valley, California

"Pastor Thomas Cassidy
Thomas Cassidy was born in Altadena, California but brought up in the Midwest. Following high school, he served in the military until 1972. Two years later, in 1974, he was saved through the ministry of First Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. God called him to the gospel ministry shortly after and he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend Central Seminary from 1975-1978."

"In February of 1976, while in seminary, Tom married Bonnie Hanson. In 1978, they returned to Rockford, Illinois, and served with the Windsor Baptist Church in Loves Park until the late 1980’s when they relocated to California. They ministered at the Fundamental Baptist Church in Escondido (San Diego’s north county area) until Tom was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Spring Valley in September of 1985."

"Thomas Cassidy...led the church to new growth in the 1990’s with a high attendance of over 120. San Diego Baptist Bible Institute was started and during the 20 years of its existence, over 50 men were trained for the gospel ministry. Spring Valley Baptist Academy was started in 1988 and grew to approximately 60 students."

"Tom and Bonnie have purchased a home in the beautiful Rio Grande Valley of South Texas where they intend to thoroughly enjoy their retirement years."
Didn’t he also serve as a sheriff for a time ,,, in San Diego for a while?

As he told me, he also was a chief security officer for the San Diego naval base while simultaneously pastoring his church in that area.

I feel sad to hear about him, but believe he rests in the Lord.
His profound knowledge about the Bible Texts, Translations, the History of the Versions, and his good stance on the Church History have been very much impressive and memorable.
I thank him for his great contribution here.
May God Bless his soul and his family in the Lord.

Thanks for letting us know of the passing of Brother Cassidy. I never had the opportunity to meet him personally, but had the privilege of knowing him and interacting with him many years here on the Baptist Board. The Board is a blessing in that regard, allowing opportunities to meet other Christians and Baptists we would not get to know otherwise.
I wish the obit was more complete.
Yes, that is very brief when so many things might have been said.

Prayers for the family and friends who are left behind, while he is present with the Lord.

I am so sorry to hear this. He and I agreed with each other as much as we disagreed, but he was a man of character. We also conversed behind the scenes on several occasions and he was a warm and thoughtful person. I look forward to meeting him face to face in the coming years.

From my beginning on here to now and the disagreement at first, I have read many many posts by Tom, and see how much of an intelligent man he was. I wish I seen this sooner, and picked his brain some more, I have a lot to learn. :Cry

I don't know, who does he have to pick on in heaven :)

That's why its called Heaven, he doesn't have to pick on anyone... Why can't we all just get along?... There we will!... Brother Glen:)

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
