    Wearing a Crucifix

Roman Catholics often will wear a crucifix.

Non-Catholics normally wear a cross without a corpus.

    1) Should we even wear one at all

    2) Is one wrong and the other one right

    3) Is it a personal decision

    4) Other comments

    The second commandment states,

Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth."

Jesus is no longer on the Cross. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Jesus' death was of no benefit without His resurrection. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:13-18 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.

    Just some thoughts to consider.

Reformed - are you saying that both a cross and a crucifix are wrong to wear?

Did you read the entire article from the link?

I am referring to a crucifix. I am on the road, so reading articles on my mobile device is a pain.

Does anyone think a Cross or a Crucifix is actually God? If yes, then your quote would be correct. If not, then it is not relevant when talking about crosses or crucifixes.

The second commandment does not address intent. It forbids graven images/idols.

In older times this was easier for the lower church crowd. Anglicans/Lutherans and the like always having crucifix’s. But the more spartan non decorated churches could quibble with the catholic use of images with some degree of legitimacy.

Today though in any baptist and non denom I’ve been in, from small to mega, use images in their worship services. They just require them to be projected onto screens instead of painted as an icon on wood.

Sadly, you are correct. However, that does diminish that images of Christ violate the 2nd commandment.

My 2 cents. The crucifix is a symbol of the atonement and the cross a symbol of the resurrection.

So, what if you have "faith" in something that scripture prohibits?

In our house of worship there was no cross that I knew of... Now I didn't inspect all the members of the congregation, and some could have worn a cross under their clothing... All I know is I didn't wear one... Is what someone does in their own church, of any concern to me?... It is their house of worship, not mine... I remember one time, that we had a meeting and a preacher who was invited to preach, came forward in a black robe, wearing a gold cross the size of your hand, on a heavy gold chain... Well after I got over the shock:eek:, his attire went away and that man could really preach... All in all he just dressed a little different than I did... Brother Glen:)

I have been down this road before R, when I say "faith" and back it up with scripture then it is true FAITH, the only FAITH.

Hank, I am not sure I know what that means. I have learned that when Roman Catholics and Protestants discuss issues words do not mean the same thing. Regarding the OP, scripture is clear that graven images/idols are prohibited. Of course, like anything else, others disagree, but I see the question clearly set answered in scripture.

The cross really makes Satan angry so it would not be politically correct.

From your own source: In 1991, President and Mrs. Neal Malicky donated the prayer chapel artwork, "The Eye of the Cross." This one-of-a-kind mixed-media piece was designed and executed by the influential American artist Wendell Castle.
