A good estimate, based upon fossil records of now-extinct life forms andthe known life forms of now, is that over 90% of all species of animals & plants that ever existed are now extinct.

There have been several worldwide catastrophes besides the flood of Noah that occurred before that flood did.

There are many extinct animals that were better-equipped to survive than modern ones are. Examples are mammoths & mastodons, that had much-harder teeth than modern elephants have, & could survive in a much-greater variety of climates than elephants can. Then, there's the famous smilodon, which had the tools to hunt larger prey than modern lions or tigers. The "cave bear" had a sense of smell much-greater than modern bears, & also could tirelessly walk vast distances, & was faster than today's bears, able to live in almost any climate. The "dire wolf" was better-equipped than any modern canine. These are just a few critters that should still be here, if not for some catastrophe(s).

Ancient horses were about the size of a Collie. Ancient alligators were generally much-larger than today's gators. Ancient dragonflies were the size of medium-size birds. Roaches were several inches long. These critters didn't "evolve"; they slowly became larger or smaller astheir environments slowly changed.)

Scripture says Noah had at least one pair of EVERY land animal and bird aboard the ark, so any animals that were extinct before man began recording history were already extinct before the flood. And, while many species of water life went extinct, some have been around much-longer than man has, such as the coelacanth fish.

God has caused fossils to be formed & preserved for a REASON!

It is the order of their burial not origins.

More like "devolution" and stasis. Nothing that would exclude either creation or the Creator.

I agree... A day older!... Man was created on the sixth day... Bible please... Brother Glen:rolleyes:

Genesis 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

You don't get to change the definition of evolution to suit your beliefs. Evolution is simply the change in a gene pool of a population over time. The example given was just that. Evolution.

The fundamental evolutionary event is a change in the frequency of genes and chromosome configurations in a population (Wilson 1992: 75).

This ignores the fact that, just like so many other words, “evolution” has more than one definition. It is imperative to keep this fact in mind, as there is a tendency to shift definitions and so conflate an established phenomenon with another not established.

I did not change the definition of evolution, but clarified what sort of evolution the examples showed.

There is the real definition of biological evolution, from biologists who study evolution. Then there are definitions created by those who either have a poor understanding of evolution or alter it on purpose to be deceitful.

The examples given earlier were biological evolution in action.

Evolutionists and evolutionary biologists are as guilty as anyone of employing shifting definitions for the express purpose of being deceitful, making claims that would be otherwise unsupportable.

And stasis is not evolution at all, but was clearly among the examples cited in the post.

How about we first disperse with logical fallacies by not resorting to red herrings and stick to the the discussion on this thread?

In this thread, we have an example provided of the evolution of horses through natural selection, though perplexingly that example was stated to not be evolution. Yet it precisely matches the definition of evolution given by biologists.

Red herring fallacy. The discussion is the provided example of eohippus evolving into modern horses while denying that is evolution.

I’m not sure why you insist on being so sloppy with terminology, but the thread is a poll about the age of the earth. The post you specifically cited with a short, blanket statement, which I then commented on, was #41. Your comments here seem to be non sequitur regarding that, as you made no specific comment regarding horses. Are you getting confused as to what thread you are posting to?

Scripture does not actually say when the earth or universe was created. The first mentioned to be created in Gen 1 is Light ,
The earth was without form and void and the universe was created at the fall of Satan. He and others were held in darkness.

The post I quoted and responded to originally was post #41 which apparently unbeknownst to the author was actually describing evolution.

The comment was that they didn’t “‘evolve’” as so many evolutionists like to imagine, but that they only evolved in a very limited sense, which was specifically described to avoid confusion, and does align with the general definition you eventually supplied.

Failure to realize or acknowledge that many evolutionists use shifting definitions of “evolve” to deceitfully extrapolate and make unsupportable claims only compounds that very real problem and makes fruitful discussion nigh impossible.
