I have said all along that Trump was IMO the lesser of two evils.
And yes I am guilty - my country right or wrong exceptions are present of course.
I also defend him of which I wouldn't be so adamant apart from the 24/7 pile on in spite of the accomplishments.

I seem to remember Christ said to a young man, why do you call me good, none save god is good. That is hardly the remark of an idealist... rather the remark of one who is sensible. He didn’t want to call attention to himself, rather to the Father. Yep quite sensible and humble.

No, I didn't drive a bus. I managed an NCO club. We probably were taught different. Also some of what I was taught I chucked when I saw it conflicted with my newly-found Christianity. I had signed up before I became Christian.

Not sure where you are going with. You and I seem to have different definitions of "idealist".

Number one question by far I have been asked is why we feel we have to go to war all over the world.

an idealist is one who isn’t in touch with reality, nor the world as it is.

We don’t... only those areas where tyranny exists and is really out of control.

A far better question is why we sell munitions to Saudi Arabia or some of these marginal countries.

    Idealist:
    1.
a person who is guided more by ideals than by practical considerations.

I would say Christianity is an idealist sentiment, not practical in the least. After all, we as today's believers, have faith without sight. not a practical application by any man's logical assessment .
    John 20:28-30
    Jesus Appears to Thomas
…28Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” 30Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.…

We, after all , have had an ideal teaching passed down to us not of a practical mind man but of one against the status quo and establishment of men. For all intensive purposes, practicality does not apply. To me practical does not put faith into that which is extraordinary. Christ was certainly that.

You know, many say Trump is like a modern day Cyrus , I say he is a Herod in disguise. In this Revelation 12 season the Male Child of Rev.12 is being fully birthed among the Elect of God. Even Herod was cool with the status quo of his time. He was fine with the establishment religious. As long as his authority was not challenged or questioned, it was all good! As soon as it was, by the birth of the Male Child physically, he went ape poop and did the most horrid act.

My point: Today there is an establishment type faith among most. It is in the conformity of men, it aligns itself with governments and does not speak an undiluted Christianity. One of no compromise, that does embrace anything other than Christ who is the ONLY TRUTH.

In that TRUTH........Men will find they will have to pound their swords into plow shears and take up their crosses and become soldiers of that Truth. that is battle that no weapon will be used nor can save you. When you challenge the status quo men find out they must return to their first wife or at least remain as such as Paul -unmarried. unmarried for them because they have divorced remarried multiple times and had many from the box of chocolates many times . When you challenge the Herod's of the world expect they will seek to strike down the birth of REAL truth and cut off the heads of their opponents who point out their sin.

Too much shmoozing with politicians and seats in high places have dulled men's spirit. Thank God for the few, or heaven would have none!

Because we can. All of those countries criticizing the US would to, if they were able. But they aren't, so they just fight their neighbors when not engaged in revolution/civil war. You're in Nicaragua, they're as good an example as any. Or since you've been to China, they threaten Taiwan, help Vietnam, invade Vietnam, adventure in Mali, & etc.

Might makes right. Got it. A variation on Hank's dog eat dog.

Nicaragua is indeed a good example. Certainly an example of what you are saying, But it is also an example of US interfering where it had no right. Look up dirty wars and CIA in this country and the Iran-Contra debacle. I've seen several graves here of kids killed from helicopter gunships. Those were courtesy of the Reagan administration. It was all for a losing cause anyway.

And in Vietnam we were all for democracy in the 50s (at least we said we were) and free elections. But when it became obvious that the people were going to freely elect the wrong person we intervened.

We have a long history of doing this. Christians should not be so on board with this evil.

Idealists are nothing more than modern day fools who will always get you into trouble if you buy their BS. The angels denounce them more than any sort from criminal. Mark my words, these fools will invariably destroy this country by there sense of entitlements, lack of work ethics, and dreams of better/ more comfortable lives without using their God given smarts, industry, sweat and self denial. Then they will pick you apart by complaining that the world is unfair because they have not been treated fairly and have not achieved the level of success that others have achieved... again not recognizing or not being coherent enough to understand that sleepless ambition, study, tireless work ethic, self denial and superior intelligence were at work to make it so.

My point is, the entire world does this. Those countries whose citizens are criticizing the USA would be doing the same thing if they were able. But they can't, so in a Nietzsche-esque way, they complain about it.

Rob, to sum it up, the culprit is envy. Why do so many want to abandon their home country and become US citizens.... envy !

WW2 veterans risked their lives, futures, health etc to insure we future generations would live better and free lives. Ultimate sacrifice were made so we could freely express ourselves as we are doing right now.

And after these devastating military conflicts what did the USA do, they helped rebuild Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Japan etc both Germany and Japan are in far better shape economically now because of our help. So if we are there today with our military , we are there to root out tyranny and get these countries on a better footing on the world stage. We bring in hospitals, provide medical supplies, schools and education, freedom, modernization etc. women no longer have to wear Berkas, fear terrors etc. We make it happen! And I refuse to apologize for that stance.... it’s one I’m proud of.

Well, my point was that criticism from from weak countries doesn't amount to much, when their internal and local actions prove they'd be doing the same stuff (or in the case of Iran, much worse stuff) if only they had the ability.

Your point is granted, but only partially. I see you listed countries that certainly benefited but you left out many that were worse off. We did not "root out tyranny" in Vietnam, Guatemala, or Nicaragua. We financed our own tyrants. In most cases contrary to the democratic wishes of the people. I am no fan of communism. It is based on a lie. But when the people choose a communist, as the Viets did in the 50s, we cannot just override their choice and later instigate a bloody coup - all the while preaching liberty.

We are doing the same thing in Iran right now. Different reasons, but a very similar playbook.

Do you think? Is there Christian idealism? And what would that destroy?

The idealism I mean , is philosophical, based on Christian principles..This is the other meaning of idealist thinking.
    Philosophy:
any of various systems of thought in which the objects of knowledge are held to be in some way dependent on the activity of mind.

Fort me that activity is constant reflection on the Word of God. My point is you went off at another as an idealist. Aren't we all? I mean really, we all hold to some philosophy of thought. It is true , in Christ is the rise and fall of many. So, how would that idealism destroy our country? And what angels would denounce that? I am open to any argument that can convince me that my Christian idealism destroys TRUTH, it will obviously destroy the lie. With that being the case, again in which way would it destroy this country for you from your idealistic point of view?

I would also like to say thank you to everyone for all the intelligent discussion. I appreciate all points of view, no hate here just interested in spirited discussion.Peace.

I do not concern myself with pie in the sky, this political party or that ( will save us and make America great again nonsense). Rather I believe God gives me the grace and the intellect and the energy level to make it happen and these are my realities... I either do it or don’t do it, then it is choice, and if I believe in any diety at all I thank him for my freedom of choice
