Did we miss our turn somewhere?

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:” Revelation 1:1 (KJV 1900)

And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.” Revelation 22:6 (KJV 1900)

Why is it most still look for the visions of Revelation to be fulfilled in the distant future? When Jesus said they would soon come to pass - nearly 2000 years ago?

Could it be we are like a person who misses his turn and still looks for it 2000 miles down the road? Someone too stubborn to take another look at the map?

Hi, Dave! How are you? Israel didn't come back until 1948 so I would say that God is never late but early. Let's fasten our seatbelts, huh?

No offence, but that aint Israel. They are the broken off unbelievers from Israel who hate Christ more than you can shake a stick at. Only by faith will any be reattached to Israel.

I agree... And the book of Revelation still has spiritual application today but not as others believe... Those are my thoughts and I know it's different from the norm but I'm awaiting the Resurrection and the return of Christ... And there is differences of opinion on that too from some... We may have missed a turn somewhere but God never does... What will be, will be, just as God planned it... Man will NEVER thwart the plans of God!... Brother Glen:)

Personally, I don't look for them to be fulfilled in the distant future...I think most of it already has been.

But, I also think that just because some people think that some things have already happened, the chronological order of events developed in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 has not been completely fulfilled, either.

" But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." ( 2 Peter 3:8 ).

Time means nothing to the Lord.
We're on His timetable, and that can take as long as He wants.

For example, Abraham was promised that God would make of him a great nation at the "tender age" of 75 ( Genesis 12:1-3 ).
He repeated this, and developed more details about it after he came out of Egypt ( Genesis 15:1-6 ).
Abraham dwelt 10 years in the land of Canaan after leaving Egypt, before Sarah persuaded him to take her handmaid Hagar as his concubine and she bore Ismael to him at the age of 86.

When Abram was 99, the Lord reiterated His promises to him, and gave him even more detail...that the child's name would be Isaac, and that he would be born when Abraham was 100 ( Genesis 17:21 ).

My point?
Again, God doesn't work on our timetable, He works on His.
Could it be we are like a person who misses his turn and still looks for it 2000 miles down the road?
No.

We haven't seen enough of the necessary "climate changes" for His second coming to be right on top of us...but it is very close.
The fact that there's been no tribulation that has made the plagues of Egypt look like a picnic, is a good indicator.:)

Are you aware of any historical records where massive earthquakes, floods, stellar happenings, plagues, hailstones, fire and blood, etc have occurred, people knew that it was the judgment of God and hid in the rocks...and it has already happened?
I'm not.
If they did, the Bible says immediately after the Tribulation, Christ will come ( Matthew 24:29-31 ) and gather His elect from the corners of the world.

Again, I'm not aware of Christ taking His people to Himself, or I'd be with Him.
Someone too stubborn to take another look at the map?
I've looked at the map...the road is longer than some people think it should be, and probably shorter than some think it will be.;)

The fullness of the Gentiles hasn't come in yet.
Too many things are out of sequence if we are in the kingdom right now.

Christ has not returned to reign at Jerusalem, for one thing.:)

Sorry. I quoted my post instead of yours. Do you agree that Israel has to come back before the end of the world?

A thousand years is as a day.

That is an interesting question. It seems that Revelation is a very long prophecy that may be giving a view of human history from the apostle John's day through to the future. It could even be looking at history to the apostle John in some sections. That seems to be how many theologically inclined people already read it. However, saying it has already all happened goes against other scripture like 2 Thessalonians 2.

Time means nothing to the Lord.

Rather, time means nothing to those who are determined to continue ignoring God's inspired time statements.

If time truly is irrelevant why did God give the believers the 70 weeks prophecy? Time was a crucial factor there.

And the same is true for all other time statements.

As I understand my Biblical eschatology, those texts refer to how those evens will take place, not the when. Check the Greek usage, εν ταχει (a noun). Compare YLT as well. See Luke 18:8.

You may have, but not me.

“Soon take place” does not mean over and done with.

That sort of thinking gets a person distracted into taking a wrong exit.

Then that person often blames the “Waze” for their own self interpretations, rather than admitting their own problem of being directionally challenged.

I didn't say that. Only looking for things to begin in the distant future shows a blindness in those who cannot see them fulfilled in history as well.

Why not?

For example, where are the seven churches, today?

Are they not examples even in modern churches?

Does God in some manner excuse the modern when he held the seven responsible?

“Shortly” does not mean over and done with.

Jesus addressed the 7 churches in Asia in John's time. They are not today's churches but some churches experience some of what they did.

Do you know of any church that does not have and experience what they did?

Dave, why do you say that? The lesbian Gertrude Stein said that a rose is a rose is a rose. Does Scripture teach that Israel will come back to life? Who did the Germans murder?
