Baptism in the name of......

A friend asked me why some denominations (pentecostals?) baptize only in the name of "Jesus" while BaptIst use "Father, Son, Holy Spirit"?

I understand Baptists are using Matt. 28.

Is there any significance to baptizing only in the name of Jesus, or does it matter?

The later, Baptism "in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", recognizes the Three Persons of God. The later is a heresy called "Sabellianism", Otherwise known as Monarchianism, where only one Divine Person is recognized in three modes. So, God the Father is the same Person as God the Son who is the same Person as God the Holy Spirit, they simply change modes of appearance. Thus the man that died for you was not a man rather a god - now nail god to a piece of wood and see if you can get the nails to hold. Those who are Baptized this way are not recognized by the Church as "Christian" their god is something other the than the One True God; three distinct Person of the same substance, i.e. homoousion. FYI. substance "signifies being as existing in and by itself, and serving as a subject or basis for accidents and accidental changes;"

I second the Oneness explanation. Trinitarian Pentecostals and Oneness Pentecostals once had a much closer relationship than they do now. Oneness Pentecostals avoid "Father Son and Holy Ghost" because it's trinitarian. They point to Acts, which several times instructs people to be baptized in "Jesus name" without mention of the Father and Holy Ghost, and they ignore Matthew 28:19.

"Oneness" is, of course, FALSE. The oneness people are forgetting a key Scripture: "With GOD, ALL things are possible". So, it's "no marvel" that He is three distinct Personages in the one Godhead.

As I've told those people many times, both online & in person, Father, Son, & Holy Spirit were all manifest & physically separate from one another at Jesus' baptism Jesus PRAYED, & Jesus said, "My Father is greater than I." Therefore, there's immense Scriptural proof of the existence of the Holy Trinity.

Yes, I realize the term "trinity" doesn't appear in Scripture in any version or language,(It's an English expression) but the FACTS behind the Trinity doctrine certainly do !

If we say Jesus proceeded from God the father in the sense that one follows the other, where proceeding from is an effect thereby proceeding from becomes the cause then we have the Arian heresy. They heresy contends the Son (a secondary) proceeds from the Father who is the primary creature, and the Holy Spirit (third) proceeding from the Father and the Son as an entity of both. In this context we have no God or gods. God does not proceeded, rather He IS.

However if we say proceeds from God the father in the sense of moving, or impressing His own likeness. Then we have God the Logos, the Wisdom of God.

Then why do they object to a pastor baptizing in "the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" if it means the same as "in the name of Jesus"?
