Does it encourage, promote or harm your relationship with God?

Is it beneficial or harmful in your relationship with others?

    Do you depend upon it?

Assuming the answer is "no" to all three questions?

No. Christ and the disciples drank alcohol. No, it was not grape juice as some try to claim. But, we are commanded to not be drunk. So there are limits to this. There is also the principle in Scripture that if we do something that causes another to stumble we should refrain. So while it is permissible, I wouldn't say social drinking is advisable or even edifying. In short, I would say refrain from it.

Another reason to thank the Founding Fathers for forming our country without a monarchy or nobility. :Biggrin

Can consuming intoxicants, of any kind, hinder your testimony?

If a lost person asked you if it was ok for a Christian to consume an intoxicant what would you advise?

What does the next verse say, I wonder?

lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.

Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish!

Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

I don’t believe proof-texting will give us a complete answer. We will have to examine the entirety of what the Bible says on the matter.

Its ok to drink alcohol; however, being drunk is a sin

Deut 14:26. We are to buy whatever we want including wine or strong drink

Is 1:22. The good wine has been watered down

It is wrong for a Christian to get intoxicated (Ephesians 5:18). Christian liberty allows the use of alcohol. That fact established, the real question is whether it is right to drink alcohol? There are plenty of reasons not to imbibe.

I would tell them the truth. The Bible does not prohibit the consumption of alcohol. It prohibits intoxication. But like anything else, being able to do something and actually doing it requires wisdom.

Can be. But alcohol in a beverage in of itself is not a sin. Drinking and becoming drunk is a sin. Christians are divided in their understanding of Jesus turning water into wine (as the unfermented juice of grapes). I am of the camp that holds that it was not fermented when He made it wine. The evangelist John R Rice would not eat in any restaurant which servied alcoholic drinks. And personally I do not drink any alcoholic drinks.

Baptists only go into liquor stores for empty boxes. (That's in the manual.)

Did you know that when two Baptists meet each other in a liquor store they develop spontaneous amnesia?

My wife & I were having this same discussion with another couple once, & the other female was ADAMANT that alcohol was prohibited in scripture.
After a few minutes of back-&-forth she made he comment that Paul had prohibited alcohol 100%. After a couple of minutes of searching, with negative results of such, one of the others stated that Paul NEVER unconditionally banned the use of alcohol.
Adamant to the end, she replied, "Well, he should have!!":)

We as genine Christians really should not drink aloholic drinks at all. Here is why, we are all part of God's temple being His priests:
