Romans 4:1-25 What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.” Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness. How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised. He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well, and to make him the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised. For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression. That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

English Standard Version Galatians 2:15-21 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.

Galatians 3:10-29 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. To give a human example, brothers:even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary. Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one. Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.

In conclusion...Paul and Luther taught the same truth about God's justification by faith.

Sadly, Rome teaches justification by works.

Once again you show your ignorance as to what the Catholic Church believes and teaches on this issue.

Justification (CCC 1987) "The grace of the Holy Spirit has the power to justify us......to communicate to us "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ". (Surely that sentence is clear enough for you to understand)

(CCC 1991) Justification is at the same time the acceptance of God's righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. Righteousness (or justice) here means the rectitude of divine love. With justification, faith, hope, and charity are poured into our hearts and obedience to the divine will is granted us. (That was exactly how I put it in my earlier post, except I used the word "written". Now hopefully all this is also clear to you).

What "Rome" (and the Scriptures) teach is that we will be judged on what we have done in this life.

Still, no Scriptural justification for purgatory, which was invented by Nimrod & Semiramis, along with the "queena hevvin", man-made saints, celibacy for clergy, & other hooey the RCC has adopted over the years.

Thank you for sharing this. You provide a perfect example of how Rome muddies up truth so the parishioner cannot possibly know what justification by faith actually is.

It would be much, much better for the parishioner to open up the Bible and actually read the book to the Romans or the book to the Galatians so they could know what God says rather than the muddied statement of their church catechism.

And as I informed you before - those people are DISSIDENTS, not faithful Catholics. MOST if not ALL of them have incurred ipso facto excommunication by their heterodoxy and heresy.
What do you think all of those anathemas were about??

The Catholic Church has NO factions or denominations.

Many of those folks are presidents of Catholic Universities. Some of the most godless places are Universities running under the name of Rome who produce godless scholars who then fill up the theology departments.
Your denial of the vast spectrum of variant views in Catholicism is making me smile. Clearly you have a narrow world in the Catholic spectrum.

    Factions/ denominations? Just variant orders.
Franciscan, Dominican, Jesuit, Benedictine, Carondalette, etc...
There are some obscure and bizarre orders. Some are radical feminists. Others are godless rationalists. They all live in the spectrum of Rome.

And like I told one of your fellow ignorant anti-Catholic buddies - you need to put away your copy of Alexander Hislop's "The Two Babylons" and toss out all of your idiotic Jack Chick tracts and do some REAL research.

Read Ralph Woodrow - a Protestant minister who used to be a follower of Alexander Hislop's nonsense.
In fact, he was such a believer in this garbage that he wrote his own book called "Babylon Mystery Religion" based on Hislop's book.

    HOWEVER
, while writing his 2nd book, he did some actual research on his own, He discovered to his horror that Hislop MADE UP all of this rubbish. He pulled his book out of print, wrote another book debunking Hislop called "The Babylon Connection?" - and now runs a web page apologizing for having written the first book.

Unfortunately - YOU have swallowed Hislop's and Chick's nonsense. Time to stick your finger down your throat and purge yourself of this idiocy.
Remember - you are commanded by God not to bear false witness (Exod 20:16) . . .

This shows your absolute ignorance of ALL things Catholic.

A religious order is NOT a faction. They are simply devoted to the faithful example of a particular saint such as Francis or Dominic or Ignatius Loyola.
And I defy you to produce ONE example of a university President who is merging witchcraft with Christianity . . .

Because this is a discussion/debate forum.
You need to make your case HERE.

If you can't do that - then maybe a discussion/debate forum is NOT the best place for you to be spending your time . . .

    WRONG.

    I've posted several verses already.

. In 1 Cor. 3:10-15, this is how the process is described:
"According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, the work of each will come to light, for the Day (judgment) will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire [itself] will test the quality of each one’s work. If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. But if someone’s work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person WILL be saved, but only as through fire."

This can't be Heaven because the person "suffers".
This can't be Heaven because the person is eventually "saved".
This is talking about a THIRD state - the state of Final Purification.

Since Revelation 21:27 tells us that nothing unclean can enter heaven, a final purification or purgation is necessary for some before entering heaven. Every single person who goes through Purgatory will indeed make it into heaven.

Matt. 12:32 states, “whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come”, which indicates that there is purification after death for some. Matt. 18:32-35 and Luke 12:58-59 are additional verses that support this doctrine.

They all have different views and teach different interpretations. Your refusal to acknowledge this is on you. The spectrum in your church is as vast and wide as in the protestant community. Own it.

    MMRRPP ! WRONG !
1 Cor. is speaking of WORKS, not the SOUL. And Matt. 12:32 has nothing to do with your imaginary, pagan purgatory notion.

Much of what Chick has said about your cult is true. (Although I have no use for his KJVO garbage,)

The RCC is chock-fulla man-made false doctrines besides purgatory - the office of pope & cardinal, man-made saints, prayers to the dead, "queena hevvin", celibacy for clergy - I could go on & on.
