Those of us from the military know that when we see a Commission or Warrant officer we are to
respond with the military hand salute.

But - what about ROTC Cadets, West Point Cadets?

AND how about JROTC cadets - would you salute them? Why or why not

No, we did not. The reason is they were just trouble in the making :Laugh (actually, we did not because they were not yet commissioned).

I have worked with Sea Cadets, ect - I dont have a problem with saluting them. Saluting shows an honor - these teens have worked hard to obtain their current rank.

I think it's an AR 600 ish thing. We salute commissioned officers and warrant officers, not non-commissioned officers and cadets.

To me it is not about respect but protocol. A SGM probably worked a lot harder than most 2LT's for their position.

OKay - lests say there are 2 or 3 West point Cadets at your unit duing the summer (for there summer training) and you BN CDR puts out that you will salute those cadets as you would any Commissioned officer

Yet a SGM/ CSM will salute a Butter bar -

BUT if the 2 LT was to demand that the CSM salute him - what do you suppose the SGM would say?

Getting ready for my Wed PM Bible study - when I finish, I will check out the AR.

That is not quite what I mean.

If the 2LT demands that I salute the CSM then I would not. The SGM would be on my side, I think.

But I guess that depends on one's experience. When I was in the Army we were a stickler for regulations. Maybe....just maybe....I would get into trouble for not saluting a CSM when a 2LT told me to. But when it all washed out both of us would be in trouble (the 2LT for violating Army regulation and me for disobeying an order....if it was deemed "lawful").

From Murphy's Laws Of Combat... Number 57

If it moves, salute it; if it doesn't move, pick it up; if you can't pick it up, paint it... Don't fret now, I'll give you a link to the full thing... Brother Glen:)

I never suggested we salute a SGM/CSM (except maybe reporting for a promotion board)

No, no saluting any cadet - they are not commissioned officers at this point.
