Being a cat lover, I appreciate the cat humor. Though not germaine to the thread here, I thought I would show this latest vagabond to arrive at my place. He is a large yellow tom cat which we named Amarillo. He leaps tall fences with a single bound. I wish I could find him a good home. Although he is a nice kitty, my little female manx has a strong dislike for him.

Yeah, we lost a cat about 6 years ago. We called him Butterfingers, why are you asking, did you find him? If you did, please put him in a box ( or in an overnight pouch if you can squeeze him in) and send him home. I'd like to see the little guy again. UPS or FedEx only!

    Hi, Willa, and welcome.

Being brand new, you may not be able to start a new thread. But it is interesting that you asked this question in a "lost cat" thread.

More to the point, you provided no information about type or size of dog or intended location of the structure. Perhaps you should share a bit more info and note which of the choices you like and why.

On the other hand, speaking for those who need no facts or data for a firm opinion, go with the first one pictured, which doesn't seem to be a choice, but is the right one anyway, mainly because of the breed pictured and how they match. If it would otherwise hold you back from this choice, you should exchange your dog for one like it. (I'm being facetious here, but hope you don't mind.)

Again, welcome to the Baptist Board. In case you missed it, the part in bold is what you should focus on.

    Hello Willa,

For some background I am a master craftsman woodworker and own a 2,000sf woodworking shop. That said, I would suggest that if you took anything from that article it would be an idea of what design you like, nothing more, because you don't have to be master craftsman to build a dog house. You would paying a high cost for the most basic of construction skills, for example I looked at the "Gohbqany Dog Houses Pet Dog House Raised Vent" they want $4,000 for a 120cm x 150cm (4' x 5') dog house that shouldn't cost you more than $500-$600 do to a really nice job. You can Google "how to build a doghouse" and watch videos of the designs you like and their methods of building and find something that you can handle. Even if you you had to buy some inexpensive tools to do the project you would be far ahead. Look around, figure out a design, draw a basic plan, ask some questions, make a material list and buy the materials and any tools that you will need.

You can go a long way with some 2x4s for framing, 1/2" plywood for floor and roof, siding, hammer, nails, circular saw and some shingles, trim and paint to finish the job off. Be careful with a circular saw and/or get some help and try not to hit your fingers with the hammer. ;)

Most dogs are happy to share their human friend's house :) taking over whatever space suits them. Choose YOUR house & enjoy your dog as a companion.
