The whole reason I accepted Christ as Savior was on the notion that I could know for sure.

The Aoostle John wrote, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, . . ." Now if one can be "saved" and then before physical death loose that salvation, that "eternal life" in any way, there would be no such knowleege. For one typically cannot know one's moment of death, nor that one might turn from salvation prior to one's death.

But are there not former professing Christians that had believed in OSAS, oh yes there are.

Now those who know they have eternal life also actually know God through His Christ, and cannot not know Him. John 17:3 Romans 8:9. Romans 8:16. John 10:27-30.

So the Apostle Paul warns, Romans 8:9, and 2 Corinthians 13:5, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, . . ."

The Apostle Paul also explained the perishing do not really know the truth of the gospel, 2 Corinthians 4:3, ". . . But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: . . ."

Ask another, what would one explain to another to know for sure one was going to Heaven or how to know God?

To me it is an "oxymoron" based on a misunderstanding of God's grace, what eternal life is, how God accomplishes it and what it's benefits are.
Seeing some of the the comments in this thread, I'm prompted to state what I hold to, in summary, which is what I see the Bible teaching in the details:

I don't believe in what some call, "OSAS", as I see it being built upon the reasoning that one becomes saved at point of belief...
That is what I see described in the term,"Once Saved".

Rather, I see God's purposes according to election standing.
    He saves, not us.
We don't "co-operate" with Him in receiving the gift of eternal life.
It is a gift ( Romans 6:23 ), not a reward for believing or any other action that we may take.

I do, however, believe in "Always Saved", in that those who are saved are kept by the power of God ( 1 Peter 1:5 ), are forgiven of all their trespasses ( Colossians 2:13-14 ) and shall never be lost because Christ shall lose none of the ones given to him by the Father ( John 6:37-40 ).
He only gives eternal life to those that the Father has given Him ( John 17:2 ), and no others...

No matter what their outward profession.

    @NetChaplain

In the end, I believe in something called "If Saved, Always Saved".

If one is truly the recipient of a new "heart" and one has experienced the supernatural "call" of God through the Spirit and by His word, then it will be manifest in them at some point of their lives.
They will have the assurance that they are saved, because of the Holy Spirit in them.
They will also come to trust in Him and His every word at some point ( Proverbs 3:5-7, Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4 ).
They will take comfort in the Scriptures, and they will know the things freely given to them of God, because He has given them His Spirit with which to discern those things out of His word ( 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 ).

They will not be like the "tares", who eventually show their true colors...

"Tares" have never been born again, they have never truly believed on Christ, and they have never really experienced a heart-rending conviction of sin and their desperate need for a Saviour from God's coming wrath.
They will go back to this world and its sinful ways at some point, because they never had a new "want to" given to them by God...
A "want to" that includes obeying Him and His commands.

They will never grow in both knowledge and grace, but will always be "stunted", never coming to an understanding of God's word for themselves, no matter how much they study it.
Instead, they will abandon their hope in the Jesus Christ that is revealed in the Scriptures, because they never really had it to begin with.
    They will not endure to the end, but will draw back "to perdition";

...and yes, it is very sobering to know that many of those who profess Christ will have Him say, "I never knew you" ( Matthew 7:21-23 ).

That is what I see after studying His precious word now for over 42 years, most of it the last 17 or so...
Salvation by grace through faith, and that entire thing is not of ourselves, it is the gift of God.
It is a permanent gift and cannot be lost, by those who truly have it.

May God bless you with good health and many good gifts...
and may you always remember that He is our Deliverer in time of need.

Yes, Romans 11:v.25 will fulfil LITERALLY from now on, the fulness of Gentiles has arrived in accord Scriptures, and will fulfil what is written in Revelation 11: v.1-3 & 6:
1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

    2 But the COURT which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not;
for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. --->1260 days-combined with Rev.13:v.5 about the Gentile Beast - the Beast of sea -, one of the main religious guides of the Gentile peoples<---

3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days...6 These have power
to SHUT HEAVEN (what is heaven?Ephesians 1:v.3 explains what heaven is), that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters (waters are peoples. and nations, and multitudes, and tongues) to turn them to blood, and to SMITE the earth with ALL PLAGUES, as often as they will.

On the other hand, yes, "the remaining Jews that are alive at His coming will be saved", as is written in Revelation 7:v.1-17:

1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand -144000- of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Now, even now, from now on, in the END of the times, there will be only and only punishment in the Gentile nations, says the Word of God, there will be PESTILENCES, and FAMINES, and EARTHQUAKES reserved to happen in DIVERS places, EXCLUSIVELY now in the END of the world and coming of our LORD Jesus (Matthew 24:.v.3), it is impossible to say in what places they will happen from now on, the choose of these places and the command where they must happen are in the hands of our LORD Jesus.

Let's be woken, it is midnight on the God's watch.

May our LORD God bless and keep us, and give us His protection
    Amen

    2Peter 3:v.7-
7 But the heavens =both the OT and NT - and the earth -Israel-, which are NOW (even NOW), by the same Word -Word of God- are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men. ->In accord 2 Thessalonians 1:v.7-12- <=

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things -the heavens- shall be
DISSOLVED what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, -DISSOLVED-see Hebrews 8:v.13-

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the Day of God -the Lord's Day - , wherein the heavens being on fire shall be
DISSOLVED, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for
NEW HEAVENS and a new earth -new ISRAEL-, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

So is every time the word saved is used in scripture its eternal?

    !. Saved by what?
    2. Saved from what?
    3. Saved by whom?
    4. Saved to who?
    5. Saved how?

The problem with brethren that study scripture is they try to make the temporal, eternal... Example... Temporal or eternal?

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

I can't work out your Salvation and you can't work out mine but you and I both must work out the Salvation the Lord had given us, our own... Will I lose my Salvation if I don't work it out?... NEVER!... Christ will never cast away those he died for but he will take you to his holy woodshed every now and then if you don't listen to him and you know what scripture says

Hebrews 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Now show me a scripture, where you can fall out?... Brother Glen:)

Yeah, "The Lord shall judge his people.", but how? JESUS answer this question for us: Matt.12:v.36-37 : 36...
every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

John 12:v.48 - He that...receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the WORD that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the LAST DAY. -- This Day just arrived. --The WORD is God -- One Day with the LORD is as a thousand years. We are living in the beginning of the FIRST century of the seventh and last millennium, the millennium of Christ, the millennium of Judgment, the Judgment Seat of Christ, or seventh and last Day referred by OUR Lord JESUS-John 12:v.48. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev.19:v.10

    Matt.25:v.31-34
    and 41and 46

31 When the Son of man shall come in His Glory, and all the holy messengers with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: -->the throne of Judgment<--

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations (Israel included): and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his messengers: ~~> Ministers of Satan - 2Corinthians 11:v.13-15<~~
46 And these shall go away into everlasting PUNISHMENT: but the righteous into LIFE ETERNAL.
