What the Christian Left wants: Second chance

On one of the garden variety political "not-news" posts on this site, someone posted ...

"there are a lot of Christians on the Left."

Which I am prepared to take at face value as true.
We are all familiar with what the Militant Left wants from their Black Lives Matter post-march riots and Defund the Police rhetoric, plus the Rainbow Marches and their anti-baker lawsuits. So let us set that aside as a given and start from the assumption that the Christian Left is not represented by those things any more than White Supremacists speak for the Christian Right.

What does the Christian Left stand for and want and support?

Enlighten your Christian Brothers and Sisters on the Christian Right.

OKAY - This sounds like it could be a very interesting thread - so lets try again! But this time - Please - those on the RIGHT - your comments are not needed, requested or desired. This thread is for a liberal Christian to explain WHAT they believe and WHY they believe something. For those of you on the Right - if you feel you must respond - then start a new thread - and discuss it over there. Me thinks if this request is not honored - its just possible said post may just disappear.

Keep in mind - we are not talking about extremeness, but those who tend be more moderate on these issues. ie - abortion, raising taxes - esp on the rich, allowing "civil unions" and ect, women pastors, climate change, Illegal Immigrants, death penalty, free health care, 2nd amendment should be done away,

Yes, I (re)-started, but since I am more on the right side - I shall make no additional posts.

Liberals - this is your opportunity to express your views without the right bugging you.

Salty

PS - I shall be keeping a close eye on this thread.

There are a few.
But also keep in mind that some may be liberal fiscally; others are socially liberal

I don't really want to speak for my friends on the left, but I can list a few things in the political/social realm since no one on the left seems to be on Baptistboard:
  • They want our society to create a large safety net for those who have life situations that undermine their ability to earn a living.
  • They want our society to provide a means for young people starting out and those who lose their jobs due to technology or economic changes to learn technical skills as well as advance their education through public colleges and universities without drowning in debt.
  • They want a way for everyone to have high-quality healthcare at a reasonable rate, without waste or favoritism, and are open to government-backed health systems as a possible means to that end.
  • They don't want the government to fund religious groups or religious schools, maintaining institutional separation of church and state.
  • They want all persons, regardless of gender, ethnicity, citizenship status, age, social standing, or wealth treated the same before the law.
  • They want LGBTQ+ persons treated with humility and kindness, with all the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizenship in a secular government.
  • They want fairness in the tax code, with persons reaping the most financial benefits from our nation's infrastructure to pay for a larger portion of what has made them successful.
  • They want life preserved, from the womb to the tomb, including the elimination of the death penalty.
  • They want our nation to have a robust immigration policy that allows temporary worker VISAs for agriculture and other seasonal labor, and attainable paths to citizenship for prospective immigrants.
  • They also want our nation to work with other nations to resettle refugees and displaced people, leading by example.
  • They want our nation to have a sensible and sustainable environmental policy, when possible, moving away from fossil fuels and developing more green solutions for energy and management of our natural resources. This mandate comes from God's original purpose for humankind to manage the earth properly as a steward to God.
There's more, but this is a sample of their positions off the top of my head.

This....definitely this!!! :Thumbsup Thanks.

...no one on the left seems to be on Baptistboard
At times, this board seems like a Trump rally so that could be why.

Baptist Believer - I think you came up with an excellent list (doesnt mean I agree with them!)
So -for those who agree with what Bap Bel posted - we invite you to come on and expound your thoughts.

IF YOU DISAGREE with the points that BB made - you may answer on this thread:
Reasons I disagree with the Left

(remember the OP: "Liberals - this is your opportunity to express your views without the Right bugging you.")

I don't agree with all of them either, however, I have an affinity for many of them. That's why I can knock off a list like that off the top of my head at 3am, when I can't sleep.

I'll 2nd that, it's amazing how well BB speaks for and defends the Left for a guy who doesn't agree with them!

I know a lot about Mormons, the New Thought Movement, the "health and wealth gospel"(sic), the occult, and political movements of various types. An educated person who listens and acts questions of others with whom he disagrees can be fluent in their basic belief system.

I also defend people I don't agree with if they are being misrepresented or lied about. You should too.

I know the Left's position quite well myself but I do not make it practice to defend them, if at all.
If they are being unfairly or falsely attacked, then you should defend them. That's part of loving your neighbor/enemy.

Mat 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
That's been my guiding principle in all my communications for at least the last five years.

Ben -it was stated in the OP that only comments from the liberal point of view ....
A word to the wise is sufficient.
I have deleted the post - and put it here
The In Between

And now back to the Liberal point of view.

I think it needs to be repeated that I am talking about CHRISTIANS who are to the left. They don't really fit the left-wing or right-wing talking points.

And I see that certain folks who like to accuse people are asserting that these are all my viewpoints.
