The title of the news article is totally misleading!

Lest anyone think that the article proposes that lockdowns were unnecessary one should read with understanding the original research article.

Post-lockdown SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid screening in nearly ten million residents of Wuhan, China [LINK]

    Abstract
Stringent COVID-19 control measures were imposed in Wuhan between January 23 and April 8, 2020. Estimates of the prevalence of infection following the release of restrictions could inform post-lockdown pandemic management. Here, we describe a city-wide SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid screening programme between May 14 and June 1, 2020 in Wuhan. All city residents aged six years or older were eligible and 9,899,828 (92.9%) participated. No new symptomatic cases and 300 asymptomatic cases (detection rate 0.303/10,000, 95% CI 0.270-0.339/10,000) were identified. There were no positive tests amongst 1,174 close contacts of asymptomatic cases. 107 of 34,424 previously recovered COVID-19 patients tested positive again (re-positive rate 0.31%, 95% CI 0.423-0.574%). The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wuhan was therefore very low five to eight weeks after the end of lockdown.

My conclusion is that this article supports a strong government response to the virus through total lockdowns.
The number of asymptomatic cases detected following the "stringent" lockdown were within the estimated range of false-positives.

The lockdowns are unnecessary and remain so. As are masks.

"It stated that out of the nearly 10 million people in the study, “300 asymptomatic cases” were found. Contact tracing was then carried out and of those 300, no cases of COVID-19 were detected in any of them. “A total of 1,174 close contacts of the asymptomatic positive cases were traced, and they all tested negative for the COVID-19.”

Both the asymptomatic patients and their contacts were placed in isolation for two weeks, and after the fortnight, the results remained the same. “None of detected positive cases or their close contacts became symptomatic or newly confirmed with COVID-19 during the isolation period.”

So after two and a half months of total lockdowns, contact tracings on those that tested positive for the virus was performed.

300 out of almost 10M tested positive for the virus. These cases could represent false positive results.

So the research leaves us to question:

Were these false positives? If they were, we would not see any transmission of the virus.

Were they asymptomatic virus carriers? We would expect some to become symptomatic and there may have been a spread the virus (if they were allowed to have contact with others) .
Mask use in China is a practice that is common - even expected,
it's something new in the U.S. - and many (even you) are fighting against it.

Furthermore this article is from China where the government has a far greater control over its people.
Can you imagine the reaction to a "stringent lockdown" in the United States? Anarchy! Rebellion!

Can you imagine a 92.9% participation rate in getting blood testing for the virus in the United States? That's the the force of Chinese government.
We don't do it that way in the U.S.

Among those posting on the BaptistBoard we have a far lower rate for those willing to get the vaccine.

I don’t want the vaccine because it was derived from research conducted on government murdered babies. Others can do what they like.

Paper and cloth masks are useless against a virus.

The social costs of the lockdowns are horrific. We see the upper class doing as they please. The lockdowns were administered politically, not medically.

Church Mouse, you live in a world that was derived from murdered people (Genesis 4:10-16), yet here you are.

Oddly enough, modern cancer cell research is founded upon cells taken/stolen from an unconsenting minority woman. You good with that?

Do what you like, justify your decisions, just don’t complain when the consequences of your decisions fall against you.

Rev, if you are only going to do what you want to do then stop posting articles that encourage governments to take strong responses to the virus!

The pandemic has been politicized and people are going to "pick a team". They are going to believe whatever their team says as there are articles out there than can be used to support all sides of the "argument".

No maskers are gong to say "sneeze on me". Maskers say duct tape your mouth and nose.

Do basic masks work to protect against catching a virus in a social setting? Studies indicate not so much. Do they work to help prevent the spread of a virus? Studies (and "common" sense) show they do. But their effectiveness is debatable.

So people take that and politicize it to suit their agenda. I don't want to wear a mask - so they do not protect against catching COVID. I want everyone to wear a mask, so they prevent the spread of COVID. Both are true, but neither are completely honest. They talk past one another to support what they want.

Our salvation is based on Jesus suffering and dying "at the hands of wicked men" but also by the "predetermined plan" of God. So God does the evil men do "for good".

Abortion is evil. It is murdering children. But so often it seems that evangelical Christians turn abortion into a social gospel. The world is evil. But God uses the world.

Others may do as they please but no one should force this flu shot on anyone else as there is no legal basis that you have shown. Furthermore, no one has shown that this medical flu shot could not have been developed with research based on abortion although I concede that Mohler probably speaks for the majority of the SBC in accepting the flu shot.

Perhaps stating the definition for asymptomatic here would help. Is a person considered “asymptomatic” if it took a week or two for symptoms to appear, or only if symptoms never appeared? The difference is all important.

I had to go through respirator training. Respirators are much better than masks. Respirators do not cause you to re-breathe nearly as much Co2 as a mask does. If according to a govt mandated class Respirators:
Are unhealthy for long term use.
Should not be worn for long periods of time.
Cause us to re breathe Co2, which lowers out immune system and causes other health issues
    Etc. Etc.
Then why does that all miraculously not apply when wearing a mask for Covid?

I got my flu shot a few weeks ago, but I have gone years without getting one as well (it was just not a priority for me). No one forces other people to get a flu shot.

When I worked in the hospital I had to get one, but I could also have rejected the shot and worked elsewhere. I'm not really sure why the shot was required, but it was and that was the right of the employer. I also had to get checked for TB routinely.

I am not sure that I have ever even had influenza (shot or no shot). And form my understanding influenza changes at least once a year so it is an ongoing decision.

I think of the current coronavirus as I think of influenza viruses when it comes to vaccines. They should not be forced on anyone, but at the same time employers and institutions are able to make decisions regarding their own practices.

I believe that it is good for a sick person to cover his or her mouth, and that preventing droplets from reaching uninfected persons can help prevent the spread of viruses.

I'm not going to get into the reports, or the "science says", because at this time we could go back and forth until Christ comes and still find sources which could be taken to support either side.

I'm just saying it makes sense that people who are sick with a respiratory virus should not breath or sneeze on other people, and that if they do the other person could become infected with with the virus (whether influenza or coronavirus).

We can chalk it up to unscientific tradition, but I do not want people with influenza or coronavirus breathing on me.

Rob, you are free to accept the flu shot. I never take them anyway.

You present no evidence about the usefulness of masks so my point is standing that paper and cloth masks are useless against a virus.

When the upper classes and state governors do as the please, then why force a lickdown on the poor? You do not refute the immense social costs if the lockdown.

Probably Biden will force masks and flu shots on everyone so businesses will be forced to comply. The people that I work around are that kind that you always did want to stay 6 feet away from.

It is just terrible having the flu. It is like a bad cold. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to get over covid. This epidemic shows the bad part about working around lower class people who don’t use soap and water even yet.

Normally the government does not work that way (forcing masks, shots) but they get their way by linking money to things. I saw this when I worked for the state. They had a program that did not make sense for us, so we declined, and their response was that our state has that right....but they would divide the millions our state would have received linked to the program among states who played the game. We played the game and got the cash. States are just too dependent on the federal government.

I work from home so I do not have to encounter many people. I had several friends who had COVID - for some it was horrible, but for others it was not too bad. I spoke with a friend who had it the other day. He said both he and his wife had Covid and it was like a bad cold. The main thing that was different was that if he went to the mailbox he would have to take a nap for a few hours. Just felt drained. I have another friend whose family had it and it was like a very bad cold. Their daughter ended up having a stroke due to a blood clot related to covid (she is in her early 20's, no health issues except asthma which my friend suspects may have complicated things). She has recovered now. I know a couple of people who have died of Covid. My wife had a coworker (in 30 yrs old) who died of it (no known medical issues). She has another friend who got covid, had medical issues, but it was mild and no issues. But her husband, without known medical issues, got it from her and he died. They were in their late 40's. A guy from church got covid while in the hospital for knee surgery (he's doing well). A few people my wife knows from school (a middle school where she works) did have to be hospitalized. One has been in the hospital for the past couple of months.

I say that to simply say that the corona virus does seem worse than influenza, but I don't know that it is as bad as some make it appear. There is a lot that we simply do not know.

I'll get the vaccine when I can - not out of fear but because I really do not care either way and might as well. Plus I'm always looking for something experimental that will give me super powers. Who knows, maybe I'll get it and become Moderator Man. :Biggrin

Sick people shouldn't be breathing on you in the first place. You wearing a mask is lowering your immune system. I hardly ever wear a mask, but if I do it's a N-95 that I have passed fit test for. It has an exhaust valve. It's protecting me.

Biden has already said that he will ask Congress to pass legislation mandating paper and cloth mask. He is a control freak because there is no medical evidence that such masks are effective against a virus. Governor Newson didn’t wear a mask at hie high-class dinner party.

It is therefore likely that Biden will try to pass legislation that you have to have a flu shot on order to be employed.

Did you know Stalin was born on December 18? No wonder Santa says what is not to like about Soviet communism!
