The issue is when sick people do not know they are sick. Where my brother works they have to wear masks (without valves....they caught on the "protecting me" part).

I don't always wear a mask, but when I do :Biggrin they are usually cloth masks with three layers...the two inside layers having become strangely missing :Wink .

The issue is enforcement. It will fall on the states. What he will do, IMHO, is recommend that the states make masks mandatory and link covid funding to that effort. States will comply because they will want the money. That is the easiest thing to do.

I do not think that the flu shot will even be an issue. I have not heard much (only one death that I know of in our state this year) from the flu. AND the flu has been an issue for a long time. If the Obama-Biden administration did not try to make the flu shot mandatory I do not see it happening now.

I would worry more about him making the coronavirus vaccine mandatory where he can. I can't remember how it was in the military, but I think it was mandatory to get the flu shot.

Trump forgot to get N 95 masks for everyone but then Fauci probably did not volunteer that info to any Republican. That is the reason Reagan wanted Republican doctors when he was shot.

That is not what is happening now. The company is spending tens of thousand of dollars because otherwise the Governor of Indiana has fixed it so that the company can be sued out of business. The rules and regulations are odious. Both parties are complicit in this fraud. It is based on hysteria mostly from minorities.

I think that that's a state issue. The companies should move to another state or suffer under the administrations elected by the citizens of that state.

That is what is going on in every state. Wake up and smell the coffee.

    How so?

We have restrictions if there is a public gathering over 250 people (they have to show how they are addressing covid issues and get approval). But businesses can operate at 100%. I picked up a couple of cigars last week from a cigar lounge. It was packed. No masks...except mine which still smells like cigar smoke.

Now businesses are free to make their own policies, and many have. There are some places where you have to wear a mask to enter.

And Georgia (I'm on the line) there is a law that people assume all risk of covid and cannot sue businesses regardless of mask policies.

I refuse to get any vaccines for covid or the flu. Gates has enough money and I need my health. No vaccines for me please!

I am betting if one were to file a workplace complaint with OSHA for being required to wear a mask without medical evaluation and fit test, OSHA would fine the employer big time.

I'm not sure, but it would be interesting. I notice a lot in the medical profession have had to wear those paper masks for years (I guess to prevent against liquids or droplets?).

Sigh...where is the evidence that there are all these sick people running around who dont know they are sick.

Where is your evidence that covid, unlike any other virus, shows instant symptoms upon contagion or is not contagious until the person becomes sick?

You seem to want covid to be no more than a mild flu with the exception that covid (unlike the flu) is benign until symptoms appear.

    Where is your evidence?

I actually am aware of several (those people I posted about were infected by asymptomatic relatives).

Do you have any evidence that covid is less contagious than the flu (which people can asymptomaticlly spread)?

The general working theory on other viruses has always been to only take precautions when symptomatic. We have never in masse run around with masks on during flu season.

Somewhat true. My son did have symptoms which could be flu (it was too early to tell). That is why he went to the doctor. And he was given a box of masks to wear (one at a time :) ) when in public in case he had the flu (he tested negative but they said it could be too early to tell). That's why we had a box of masks when the pandemic began.

But we are talking about precautions here. What @Revmitchell was saying is that one can't have covid unless he or she is symptomatic, and can't spread the virus unless symptomatic (at least asking me for evidence to the contrary). But we know people are infected with viruses and asymptomatic at least for a time. And we know with the flu that it can be transmitted prior to the appearance of symptoms.

The newest evidence is asymptomatic don't spread Covid. This entire Covid fiasco is a prime example of junk science. The science swings 180 degrees and back gain. Faucci said don't wear masks, they don't help. I am taking him at his word. He said that PRIOR to political pressure. He did not decide masks were a good idea until Chuck and Nancy decided they were a good idea. I trust his pre political pressured opinion.

This is where we disagree. I believe that we can compare how respiratory viruses spread and find common ground.

Do you have any evidence that the covid-19 virus is very much divorced from other respiratory viruses (like influenza and other covid viruses)?

I understand respiratory viruses can be more or less severe and more or less transferable than others. But I do not see how we can argue that this covid virus is so different from any other respiratory virus (to include other covid viruses) when it comes to behavior.

I agree that the current fiasco is a prime example of junk science (on both sides). I guess that is to be expected to a degree people are making "scientific conclusions" without enough scientific evidence (it is still too early for many of the conclusions we hear).

It is not only that we are in the middle of a pandemic, but also that we are making concrete decisions based on too little evidence. If I were pro-mask I could find a lot of evidence and scientific reports to support my position. If I were anti-mask I could do the same. It is a mess.

Personally, I don't care. If a store says I have to wear a mask then I wear one. I found out the hard way why this is very bad in a cigar store. You have to trash the mask you worked so hard on (removing the two inner layers) because the smell is not good a day later. If not, then I don't.
