Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Once Hyles allowed Satan into his spirit, he went on a little-different path than Ruckman. Satan has a "scratch" doctrine for4 every itching ear.

I have no reason to doubt the tale of Hyles' affair. To an old cop, that story has a ring of truth to it. I just hope his shenanigans didn't keep anyone else from coming to Jesus, or make anyone doubt his/her faith.

And I feel sorry for Hyles, as Jesus said in Matt. 18:6
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Yes, once he let himself into Satan's clutches, he departed far from what Rice had taught him.

Hmm. That doesn't sound like an education doctorate. I have to take back what I said about his degree being in education.

This fact even made it into an Alabama newspaper when Ruckman held a meeting at the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette.

The Baldwin Times, June 23, 1955, p. 8

Another newspaper article describes Ruckman as a Southern Baptist evangelist living in Bay Minette, Alabama, and that he “attended Kansas State University where he set the record in the 200-yard breast stroke in the Big Six swimming competition. He received the B.A. degree in Radio Arts from the University of Alabama and was a professional disc jockey at radio station WABB in Mobile before studying for the ministry.”
The Greensboro (Alabama) Watchman, June 9, 1955, p. 1

Edited to add that I was able to confirm by newspaper reports that he was on the K-State swim team at least in 1941 and 1942.

Well, I certainly do believe this, but I made a number of points--which remain unanswered.

Because I keep asking you questions that you refuse to answer, and refuting your points in ways you refuse to recognize. For example, if you could only figure out what higher criticism actually is. :p

Tell you what. Here's a link for you to study up on the actual meaning of "higher criticism," as opposed to how you used it: Higher Criticism | Encyclopedia.com

Educate yourself!
Are you arguing from the point it is wrong to only accept the KJV? That is the angle I was approaching. Should I accuse you of correcting God's Word, because God cannot preserve it? I am just pointing out the inconsistency of those arguments. You asked me if we can only use the originals, then.

Then I pointed out the difference between higher criticism and the Holy Spirit. The only take away from higher criticism I got was the ocd to strive for an exact duplicate of the originals, to get the correct intent.

"theological content, purpose, and related matters are the concern of higher criticism." From your suggestive reading.

Not that we had to have every single word from the originals.

This thread is not about textual criticism is it?

I remember hearing Ruckman preach just one time. This was in the 1960's, and as I remember I went with him to services at another church. Ruckman did a chalk talk which was quite good. I don't remember the content of his message, though. The man started out right. Too bad he ended up where he did.

I have a friend that I put on the radio back in the 90's. But all he preached was on the Second Coming and other future events. (no, not Van Impe). This individual also had made some videos of his preaching. I had recommended to him that in his videos, he should use some charts and other visual aids. He never did. Would have made his teaching so much more effective.

And in the FWIW - he had driven up to NY State -to do a couple of conferences - found out he was a member of AAA - but had no ideal he could get maps and a trip-tic. - I took him down to AAA - got him his maps. ---- Just saying....

I think we can safely conclude that Hyles went down the tube, & falling for the KJVO myth was just a part, not the cause, of it. Had Rice known about it, he woulda done the proverbial turnover in his grave. (Gladly, Rice is in paradise, unaware of his prize student's sinking into the swamp.)

One question-Is Hyles an example of one's throwing away his salvation?

I have to say he served God faithfully for many years, and many (including me) will tell you of the blessings received through his ministry. However, many others (also including me) will tell you of harm suffered. I'm glad Jesus is the Judge at the Judgment Seat of Christ, and not me.

That's why I wonder if he abandoned his salvation. I ask that, as, ever since my own salvation, I've never wanted to deliberately sin, especially a grievous sin such as adultery, which is a gateway for all sorts of other sins.
