Who Were the Sons of God in Genesis 6?

This is a comprehensive look at the hermeneutics used to interpret "sons of God" in Genesis 6 as angels with a well-informed and devout response. The conclusion is that it is a weak interpretation, and that the phrase is better understood as extraordinary men.

I share the view that the sons of God were extraordinary men with the nuance that they were great men of faith.

Except sons of God being held in reserved judgement for going after strange flesh seems to be something other then men!

2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose." ( Genesis 6:1-2 ).

" There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown." ( Genesis 6:4 ).

I would think that the context would tell us...
Are they not the same as the sons of God in Job 1:6 and Job 2:1?;)

which verse in Jude refers to this passage? "sons of elohim" does not require the translation "God", as the Hebrew word can also mean "sons of the mighty", as some of the Jewish Rabbis understood it. the Targum of Onkelos, reads, "Giants were in the earth in those days; and also when, after that the sons of the mighty had gone in unto the daughters of men, there were born from them giants who from of old were men of name". "elohim" is also used for human judges.

If as some assume this refers to fallen angels, then there are people who are not from Adam, as as Jesus came to save the lost of Adam (Hebrews 2:16), how are these divine-humans saved?

Thus neither the sons of God, nor the mighty men, had anything to do with the Nephilim. When it says, they were mighty men, the they refers back to the sons of God, not the Nephilim.​

As shown above, the evidence that “the sons of God” mentioned in Genesis 6 are fallen angels is substantial. By their sexual immorality, these angels produced offspring which were strong and violent. The concept of a race of giants which resulted from the union of gods and humans is virtually universal in the world’s early civilizations. The original intent of the angels may have only been to satisfy their forbidden lust. Yet the knowledge they brought with them and taught mankind caused society to develop at a more rapid technological pace than God had intended. This societal development was not positive, and it gave rise to a very violent society, one in which the nephilim apparently played a large role. God was forced to restrain in the Abyss the wicked angels that produced the nephilim, and cleanse the earth of them and the violence they brought with the great Flood.
