What are your favorite movies???

Over the past 40 years, my wife and I have enjoyed watching people like Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, etc. We, when we had cable, used to watch TMC all the time, but that's been six years in the past. Some of the movies we love are:
McLintock
Bend of the River
The Shootist
The Postman Always Rings Twice
The Parent Trap (Original with Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara)
Pillow Talk
There are many others, but this should be enough to get the ball rolling!

 

I can fully understand your position. I grew up with friends who didn't even have a television. I didn't get to watch much television when I was a youth, though I did sneak into the house when Star Trek, the original version was airing. I try to be very selective in my movie watching as well. I don't think the Lord would stop us from watching some things. But, I know that there are many things I can no longer watch. When I was out of the Lord's will, I watched "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," and for years, it became a staple in our home as did "Home Alone" and "A Christmas Story." All had foul language in them, and when I caught myself using that language, I decided I wouldn't watch them any longer. I don't believe the Lord is so "staunch" that he would stop people from watching movies as long as they guard their minds. I mean, one can't go out into the world today without hearing foul language, witnessing sexually explicit materials being distributed, etc. We just have to guard our minds. But, I commend you on your decision and conviction to do what you do. Blessings.

 

I totally agree, Salty! If and when we get a chance to enjoy an old John Wayne movie, we do so. Wayne was, IMHO an honest to goodness American Hero! He gave many people a good view of what a man should be in most of his movies. I've got a huge painting of him that my late MIL had. I've not hung it, but it will go somewhere in my library, I'm sure, right along with Washington and some of the founding fathers of this country, and on the opposite wall paintings of the Hero's of the Faith!

 

Wow! You've listed many of our other favorites! Most ALL of the older movies from the 40s and 50s are loved by us in a real way. We just don't have actors and actresses like those in that era anymore. This morning we had the tele on Vudu, which is where we get some of our "religious" or "inspirational" films. We came across one that had been snuck in that had gross language and nudity in it. My wife was half-asleep, so she didn't really notice it, but I did as I looked up from a book that I was reading and taking notes from at the time. I had to turn it off. I went back later and rated the movie a 1 star. Someone else had rated it 4 1/2 stars. They must have been from a denomination that enjoyed worldly entertainment in their religious tuning. It made me sad to see that some channels do this. Thankfully it's internet and we're not paying for the movies. That would have been wasted money. It truly is becoming a "battle for the mind." So, it's very possible that the Brother who mentioned earlier that he tried to avoid movies had the right idea.
