Propitiation do you know what it means
It would be the appeasement of God's wrath against our sin.
Saves us from His wrath. So, God saves us from God.
Saves us from His wrath.
It would be the very basis of why Psa is the best atonement view!It would be the appeasement of God's wrath against our sin.
Some have gone so far as to either water it down to Expiation, or to God not having wrath at all!It is a late Middle English word derived from the Latin word propitiat, which means "make favorable".
The English word means an atonement, but has wrath in view (avoiding wrath).
The word translated "propitiation" in Scripture can mean "propitiation", "expiation", or "atonement".
Example -
"I never strive to propitiate people"
"Christ is the Propitiation for the sins of the World"
In Scripture Christ is the Propitiation for human sin as in Him we avoid the wrath to come.
Propitiation has nothing to do with Penal Substitution Theory any more than it has to do with biblical Atonement. All agree that Christ is our Propitiation as in Him there is no condemnation....we escape the wrath to come (Judgment).
That said, some who hold Penal Substitution Theory define "Propitiation" as incurring wrath, but this is misunderstanding the word (words have meaning).
Pretty sure it means "bribing a god not to whip yer arse" ... but let me go check:Romans 3:23
Hebrews 10:17
1John 2:2
1John 4:10
So, God saves us from God.
Saves us from His wrath.
Yea, that's what I said, God saves us from God.
BEST is a strange word.It would be the very basis of why Psa is the best atonement view!
How about its the most accurate to the biblical evidences?BEST is a strange word.
In both cases, an innocent life is lost and a guilty life is saved ... which is the "BEST"?
- A man commits a murder, but his twin brother is convicted and sentenced to death: an innocent man is tortured to death and a guilty man enjoys a life of freedom.
- A boy ignores a warning sign and falls through the ice into a frigid lake; his older brother jumps in and pushes the boy to safety but dies in the process.
"For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." [Luke 19:10 NASB20]
Possibly true. (I try not to spend too much time chasing that particular 'mystery'.)How about its the most accurate to the biblical evidences?
Some have gone so far as to water it down to Propitiation. Some have gone so far as to either water it down to Expiation, or to God not having wrath at all!
There is a wrath of God towards sins and sinners not saved, correct? Some have gone so far as to water it down to Propitiation.
Like FF Bruce (a Calvinist scholar) noted - the word means atonement (including propitiation and expiatation).
Christ is the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world (expiation) AND in Him we escape the wrath to come (propitiation).
But some have their "pet" theories and interpret Scripture through its lens.
Wrath is actually not against "sins" (actions) but against sin in terms of unrighteous people. There is a wrath of God towards sins and sinners not saved, correct?
Jesus experienced the Judgement of God against us "on thaty day" in the Cross!Wrath is actually not against "sins" (actions) but against sin in terms of unrighteous people.
This is the Judgment given to Christ (the lost are condemned, the judgment being they rejected Christ. So they are not forgiven. And they will experience judgment "on that day".
That is a twist on Roman Catholic doctrine, but unfortunately for you it is not in the Bible.Jesus experienced the Judgement of God against us "on thaty day" in the Cross!
I need to correct the first two verses which should be :Romans 3:23
Hebrews 10:17
1John 2:2
1John 4:10
