Today's Gospel vs. The Gospel of Christ
by Jim Bryd, Pastor at Thirteenth Street Baptist Church, Ashland, Kentucky
    1. Today's gospel emphasizes what man must do for God. The gospel of Christ declares what God must do for man. "Salvation is of the Lord" (Jonah 2:9).
    2. Today's gospel talks about missing hell and gaining heaven. The gospel of Christ deals with being saved from sin (Matthew 1:18) and seeing the glory of God in the face of Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 4:6).
    3. Today's gospel starts with man, ends with man, and has the welfare of man as its central intent. The gospel of Christ starts with God, who chose a people unto salvation (Ephesians 1:3-6) and always has the glory of God in view (Ephesians 1:6, 12, 14).
    4. Today's gospel says Christ died to save everybody but His death is no value unless sinners believe. The gospel of Christ says that because of the Savior's obedience unto death, "many shall be made (legally constitued) righteous" (Romans 5:19). These "many" are sheep for which the shepherd died (John 10:11).
    5. Today's gospel talks about the love of God, but does not answer these questions, "How can man be justified with God? Or, how can he be clean that is born of a woman? (Job 25:4). The gospel of Christ says that sinners are justified (legally aquitted of guilt and declared to be righteous) and made clean (holy and acceptable to God) through the substitutionary sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Savior satisfied divine justice and paid the debt His people owed. Since the debt has been cancelled, justice has no more quarrel with those for whom the Savior tasted death and love can be shown without compromising the holiness of God.
    6. Today's gospel says the Holy Spirit is trying to save, if only people would let Him. The gospel of Christ declares the spirit will quicken, call to faith in Christ, and justify every sinner chosen of God in electing grace (Romans 8:29-30). "Sinners are made willing in the day of God's Power" (Psalm 110:3).
    7. Today's gospel calls on men to make Jesus their Lord. The gospel of Christ declared God has already made him to be the Lord (Acts 2:36). Jesus is not in your hands to do with as you please; but you are in His hands to do with as He pleases!

You must know that "you must be born again".
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?"
Every instance of true regeneration involves the "Conviction of an individual's personal sin against God".
Every instance of true regeneration involves "Repentance toward God of an individual's personal sin against God".
Then, Every instance of true regeneration involves "Faith" in Jesus Christ, as THE SAVIOR.
These elements involved in True Regeneration are implied any time, "belief", "trust", "choose", etc. are used.
The reason for wholesale loss of truth and the inability to decern Spiritual Truths is that the individuals who have "prayed for salvation" or "believed" in the flesh, without TRUE Conviction and Repentance and Faith are still lost in their sins.
"Sin" must be recognized and repented of in order to have a Savior FROM SIN.
In an instance where actual "free grace" is genuInely "believed, WITHOUT BEING BORN AGAIN, it is NOT WELL WITH THEIR SOUL.
"BRING FORTH FRUIT MEET FOR REPENTANCE" Matthew 3:8 KJV

The genuine gospel of Christ does save from hell and suggests the promise of Heaven.

The gospel of Christ deals with being saved from sin (Matthew 1:18)

This is just the necessity of The Gospel of Christ. The issue is "sin" that Jesus suffered for and is in the soul of every human being.

"Sin" is often by-passed and left out regarding a HISTORIC "Belief" in "something to do with Jesus' Works. So, "Salvation is of Works." The Works of Jesus Christ. He had to deal with "sin" for there to be any real talk about "Hell and Heaven" in the SPIRITUAL REALM.

"IF" the perspective is from the flesh and simply a discussion of hell and heaven seeking a "natural" man's "decision", ( like "do you want an Insurance Card against Hell and for Heaven?" Sure, but what about their sin and need to be born again?) then that is what he is emphasizing I believe.

    Greetings,

I agree with everything stated, and what came to my mind in conjunction of what was stated above, we can find quite clearly and concisely in Roman's 9:

Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Rom 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
Rom 9:18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
Rom 9:19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
Rom 9:20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
Rom 9:24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

To think otherwise is sadly man's PRIDE, which thinks it can argue and rebel against God's Truth and His Righteous Judgement.
As it says, and rather very strongly: "O man, who art thou that repliest against God?"

It is unfortunate, that our fleshly hearts always rebels against God's Truth, and therefore once we begin to take note of this by the convicting Power of the Holy Spirit, which brings "chastisements" we are corrected, because the Lord had mercy on revealing the depths of our wicked hearts, even as Disciples.

This is what the Lord is after from those who are Called by His Name. We are always brought to the cross, so we can see the absolute Lawlessness of our hearts, that is why we are "saved by God Given Grace , by God and nothing from within ourselves. All the works of our Fleshly hearts, like Job, Jeremiah, David and many other's say how worthless they were, equal to the "worms of the earth", as the "dust of the earth", where we can be blown away by the winking of the Lord's eye. Until we are shown this reality, by His Holy Spirit, then we walk in much "self-righteousness", and self-importance.

Praise His Glorious name for such a Salvation such as this!
I surrender ALL, ALL to Him I owe..........AMEN!

    The Lord bless you....
    In His Love........Eternal!

    Greetings,

Yes, that is the true, but it is only the Glorious reward we receive by being Saved from our Sins! However, the main purpose of the Gospel is to Know Christ, and being sanctified to be One with Him, as He is with the Father!
Example: my father was an atheist most of his life, but went to a Methodist church during the last 5 or 6 years of his life, as an "insurance" policy so not to suffer eternity in Hell. However, he personally had no desire to Know Jesus Christ, and to follow Him. He passed away without Salvation, because he desired not to know Christ for Christ, but to only be guaranteed a "peaceful ending". His purpose was a self-centered reason, and nothing more.

That is what KenH is stating, that the present "Gospel day Gospel" is not about knowing Christ, but being saved from eternal death from Christ. That is a "self-centered" salvation, not a Salvation to KNOW HIM, and Him alone. It is about what they can get out of Christ for "their good", not for the Glory of Christ and His Crucifixion.

    The Lord bless you.....
    In His Love....

From hell and to Heaven is not any reward being saved from one's. But a result of what can only be a gift.

Christ, and Him crucified is the central theme of the Gospel. It's the reason for Creation.

Your error is in thinking everyone is already saved from their sin, but you've asked the logical question posed by that premise. You make an act of man to be the 'good' part of the Gospel.

For starters, I think no such thing. You had better get your facts correct first. The general redemption being true does not make the Bible to teach universalism. Which it does not.

You can't get away from it. If Jesus died for all, but all are not saved, then the effectual act is the act of men.

Conviction takes place regarding the sin that is Repented of and thus comes before Repentance and Faith.

Repentance and Faith are Twin Doctrines.

Repentance and Faith is Conversion and The New Birth.

One is keep from God and His Heaven because of sin.

Romans 3:23, ". . . For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God . . . ."

Revelation 21:8, ". . . the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. . . ."

Acts of the Apostles 10:43, ". . . all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. . . ."

Romans 6:23, ". . . For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. . . ."

1 Corinthians 15:1-4, ". . . the gospel . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures . . . ."

True - but what is the purpose of salvation - is it to live a life to bless the Lord -
or to avoid going to Hell?

Actually the goal is the New Heaven and New Earth. Revelation 21:1. Isaiah 65:17.
