Epistemology must come before one's theology.

How one knows anything before what one knows.

We all started with our own experience.
Most of what we know comes from others.
Then there are what is logically deduced.

Epistemology is SORELY needed at this point in Western culture, especially in Christendom.

Depends what one means by metaphysics. Nonsense or reality.

There used to be a "house of mirrors" at our local amusement park. It was sort of like a maze, where you could walk in, but then had difficulty walking out. You kept bumping into reflections of where you had been. And so you had to think about how to discern reality from its echos.

Epistemology. How one knows comes before what one knows And comes first.

Most of what one accepts as true come as from others.

At issue is how one recognizes truth.

Biblical Hermeneutics is a special case issue.

There is not one hermeneutic that believers follow.

The fact that believers have different understandings.

So am I to understand you deny that the foundation of Christ's church was ever to be finished with close of the 66 Books of it's Bible?
Ephesians 2:20, ". . . the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; . . ."

I hold to the canon closed with inspired books, and that we have the full and complete revelation of God to us in those books, but was saying that those churches I listed are really into metaphysical theology, to the point of holding to heresy!

Lol, up until last night I thought I knew that back in the 40s a university sent a wildlife biologist to the Yukon to research if wolves were responsible for the decline in the caribou population from reading the book, 'Never Cry Wolf', which claimed to be true, and which I've heartily recommended the book and the movie to others over the decades. Pans out it's not true, it's fiction. Makes me feel foolish to have been mistaken/'taken' for so long, but of course there was no 'Google' to check it out back when I was a teenager and reading everything that struck my interest.

    When we read our bibles:
    1) Ask "what does it say?" (Paraphrase it in our own words)
    2) Ask "what does it mean?" (Not what others claim)
    3) Ask "how could I apply it to my life?" (Be doers of God's word, not just hearers)
    4) Ask "how can I share it with others?" (We are Christ's ambassadors)

    1. The Scriptures are to be taken in the sense attached to them in the age and by the people to whom they were addressed. (Audience relevance - you're reading other people's mail)

    2. Scripture cannot contradict Scripture.

    3. The Scriptures are to be interpreted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, which guidance is to be humbly and earnestly sought. - Charles Hodge
