I wonder if you can supply a quote from a Calvinist saying that God delights in tormenting people for all eternity? I am a Calvinist and I certainly don't believe that.

God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked. The death of the wicked is justified and God is a just God. Therefore justice indeed glorifies God.

Ezekiel 9 must really make you angry, but for all who bow to God, his justice is our salvation.

I praise God every day for unconditional election. There is no hope for anyone without it (Psalms 14:2-3; 1 Corinthians 2:14). If there is one solitary person in heaven on the Last Day, it will mean that God is merciful as well as just. But in fact there will be a vast crowd there, so great that no man can number it, so where do you get off with your arrogance numbering the crowd and finding it too small? 'As for God, His way is perfect (Psalms 18:30). Who are you to criticize Him (Romans 9:18-21)?

But you do overlook the fact God does not take pleasure in their death. Question for you Martin, do you love your children even when they choose to disobey you or do you just hate them?

I do find what you say to be rather funny. Your version of God only loves a small group, which you think your part of, and the rest He condemns to hell just because He can. Calvinism has always been a small part of Christianity so they would not make up a vast numberless crowd.

I can ask you the same question, "Who are you to criticize Him"? You expect to act like a calvinist.

No. It disproves YOUR Calvinist view.

Calvinism has always been a small part of Christianity so they would not make up a vast numberless crowd.

1. Do you really believe that I think only Calvinists go to heaven? Shame on you! I have never said anything like that, and indeed have called for peace between Calvinists and Arminians on this very board. But you are not an Arminian, are you?
2. When have the majority counted for anything with God? If the majority were always right we would all be Roman Catholics.

However, I am encouraged by your remark that you only became aware of the C vs A debate around 3 years ago. There is hope for you yet! I was reading a biography today of Abraham Booth who was a leading English Particular Baptist at the close of the 18th Century, and author of the famous work, The Reign of Grace. I was interested to learn that in his youth he was an Arminian and strongly opposed to the Doctrines of Grace. Eventually, he was brought to see the truth and wrote the following:

The doctrine of sovereign, distinguishing grace, as commonly and justly stated by Calvinists, it must be acknowledged, is too generally [opposed]. This the writer of these pages knows by experience to his grief and shame. Through the ignorance of his mind, the pride of his heart, and the prejudice of his education, he, in his younger years, often opposed it with much warmth, though with no small weakness; but after an impartial enquiry, and many prayers, he found reason to alter his judgement; he found it to be the doctrine of the Bible, and a dictate of the unerring Spirit. Thus patronized, he received the once obnoxious sentiment, under a full conviction of its being a divine truth.' [Abraham Booth, Memoir. Works 1:xxi]

Amen! However, that does not say that God delights in sending sinners to hell, only that they deserve it. As I asked you before, is a judge delighted when he sentences a criminal to death or to life imprisonment? Of course not. But he is glad that justice has been done.
