Why is Hell eternal?

There are many who fail to understand the reason for eternal hellfire for the unredeemed, because sinners can only commit so many sins in their temporal life. Can this adequately be explained?

Because even one sin is so offensive to the Holy Righteous Almighty God it warrants eternal punishment.

I think what you are asking is why do some think the lost suffer eternal conscious torment when they only sinned for the short time of their human lifetime.

A verse does say that the "smoke of their torment" goes up forever and ever (Revelation 14:11). Thus a reasonable interpretation is conscious torment for eternity.

I believe that view is wrong, but that was not your question.

Hades will be eternal in Gebenna.

Isaiah 14:14-15, ". . . I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. . . ."

Revelation 20:10, ". . . And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, . . ."

Revelation 20:14, " . . . and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. . . ."

To which "hell" do these verses refer? When Hades is cast into the Lake of Fire, what happens. Does it pop up and remain as it was? Or is it burned up, destroyed, made no more? Inquiring minds want to know...

The OT passages refer to Sheol.
The one referred to in Isaiah is going to be broght down to Sheol.

If understood to be Satan in Isaiah, in Revelation he is cast into the lake if fire. After words Hades is cast into the Lake of fire.

So if Satan is being brought down to Sheol, it is to be done after Hades bring cast there following Satan.

Isaiah 14:15 refers to the spiritual underworld where our spirits go after death, not to our physical grave.

Thus actually reads, "you shall be brought down to the underworld..." This verse seems to refer to the same location as Hades does in the NT. Thus no support for an eternal Hades.

Revelation 20:10 supports that the "Lake of Fire" is eternal. Not at issue.

Lastly, since Hades is thrown into the Lake of Fire, obviously Hades in not the Lake of Fire, so no support for the idea Hades is eternal.

So all you have is the claim Hades exists eternally within the Lake of Fire. Dubious at best.

Why is Hell eternal because Heaven is... But you are not there because you earned it but because of his sacrifice and faith and righteousness of Jesus Christ earned it for you... Now who is in Hell?... The Devil and his angels... And I wish brethren on here would quit trying to put each other there... Because if not for the Sovereign Grace of Almighty God through his Son Jesus Christ we would ALL be there... IOW... GOD FORBID!... And if my soul were sent to Hell, thy righteousness law approves it well... Brother Glen:)

Sheol and Hades are the same nether world. So Isaiah 14 cannot refer to Lucifer as popularly believed.

That is what I said in post 12.

I think the Lake of Fire is located in Gehenna, and thus Gehenna and the Lake of Fire are eternal. Hades is temporary and will be ended per Revelation 20:14

The reason Gehenna and the Lake of Fire are everlasting is that scripture says Satan and his minions will be tormented forever.

It is my understanding the person's of dead bodies and dead souls will suffer forever in the eternal fire too. Matthew 25:41, Mark 9:48.

No need to explore this viewpoint, as I have demonstrated why such a view is unbiblical many times, and what I have said is ignored.
