The Clarity of Scripture on Salvation

I’m unsure that “contradicts” is the correct term.
The problem as I understand it, is a failure to distinguish between salvation and sanctification, sanctification being a process of learning and growing.

But at the point of a persons salvation a simple belief in our Lord’s ability to save them appears all that is required.

Rom 9:11
for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God's purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this salvation is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

It is certainly true that prior to our salvation, all our "works" of righteousness are as filthy rages to God. However, after individuals are born anew, becoming a new creation created for good works, to say good words indicates a changed life does not seem out of line. To say we are not to strive to become more Christ-like also seems odd.

To claim "Lordship" salvation says good works are necessary for salvation is false. The idea is our total "all in" commitment to Christ includes our commitment to make Christ the lord of our life, a commitment to follow His commands and serve Him as best be can. We all know the "death bed" conversion story where someone died before they ever did much in the way of good works, yet their salvation was secure. Think about the thief on the cross.

Bottom line, good works in our eyes does not proof salvation, but serving Christ faithfully following salvation provides assurance of salvation, just as the lack thereof provides assurance of non-salvation.

 

Eph 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

1 Timothy 6:17-19
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy, to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Those that deny were are to strive to store up rewards for our love and devotion to Christ and His ministry, are attacking the very foundation of Christianity.

 

I think you misunderstand 'Lordship Salvation.' We don't believe in total submission to Christ for eternal life, but because we have eternal life (Romans 6:1-2)

1 John 5:2
and a great many more, if I had time to look them out.
We do these things, of course, not in the hope of some reward, but because we have a new heart and a new spirit that loves God and our neighbour.
