"In 2020, Barichivich and Lara extracted a sample from the Great Grandfather using the most extended manual drill, but it did not reach the center. They estimated that their sample was 2,400 years old and used a predictive model to calculate the full age of the tree. Barichivich said, "80% of the possible trajectories show the tree would be 5,000 years old."
Now whoever will have the second largest tree will cut that one down.
You caught me - I just went into the saw business.....Now whoever will have the second largest tree will cut that one down.
Look at what you've done, @Salty ! You started a tree war.![]()
One ring per year is the norm, but in rare occasions severe drought results in the ring being invisible to the naked eye. Also, despite the cumulative effect of the curse, tree growth is often increasing in recent years due to higher concentration of carbon dioxide. My understanding is the “rings” of a tree are produced seasonally. The actual growth would depend on rainfall during a particular season.
I recently read an article that the violin maker “Strativerious” (sp) used trees from a time of little rainfall, and which caused the rings in the wood to be much close together and produced the better quality sound.
peace to you
