A certain poster has been using this to describe anyone who opposed their views.

As my old friend said

Speaking of books...okay, no one was speaking about books. But I have a good one for all of you.

I was sitting on my couch when a book fell on my head.
I only have my shelf to blame.

Obfuscation is the obscuring of the intended meaning of ommunication by making the message difficult to understand, usually with confusing and ambiguous language. The obfuscation might be either unintentional or intentional (although intent usually is connoted), and is accomplished with circumlocution (talking around the subject), the use of jargon (technical language of a profession), and the use of an argot (ingroup language) of limited communicative value to outsiders.

That does describe what we see in a number of comments that are provided on this board.

Well, yes, but the person who has been using it uses it incorrectly.

You are correct. The word “obfuscation” is being used to dismiss decisive, biblical, sound, completely on subject rebukes concerning the topics being discussed.

It is an intellectually dishonest effort at debate.

peace to you

That is just your opinion that what he is calling “obfuscation” is in fact decisive, biblical, sound, completely on subject rebukes concerning the topics being discussed.

I would have to agree with that individual that this understanding of the word does fit a number of posts on here.

Some may indeed be bound to a common Internet comment "definition"—more than a sentence or two and using proper grammar and punctuation.

Such will indeed tax the little grey cells of some, or even many, and that equates to obfuscation. Clear? :Wink

What happened when my GPS told me to turn around? I couldn’t see where I was driving.
