What was done, fixed one problem causing a worst problem.

CFC's were replaced by hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which do not deplete the ozone, but they do have up to 9,000 times greater warming capacity than carbon dioxide.

Nitrogen 78% of air.
Oxygen 21% of air.
Argon about 1% of air
Carbon dioxide 0.03% to 0.04% of air.

So do air conditioning and refrigeration go bye-bye?

"The final rule announced Tuesday by the Environmental Protection Agency will reduce HFC consumption in the United States based on historic levels by 40% between 2024 and 2028."

There are several compounds other than CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs that can serve as a refrigerant. The last refrigerator I bought a couple years ago is charged with ammonia. Expect it to return in a big way.

What is the most effective refrigerant?
Ammonia is toxic and flammable, but it is a safe refrigerant when used in systems with modern technology.
