Republican at a Prayer Breakfast Jokes About Her Shacking Up

' "Glad those in attendance, including @SenatorTimScott and our pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have a little extra to talk about on Sunday now," she said.

But some conservatives took issue that Mace used her platform at a Christian prayer breakfast to make light of premarital sex, which Christianity considers a sin.

Tom Ascol, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Florida, chided, "How thoughtful for @NancyMace to delay fornication so she could show up on time for @votetimescott's prayer breakfast.
...
"Nancy Mace just said she turned down sex from her NOT husband but her fiancé this morning in bed because she had to get to the PRAYER BREAKFAST," said Graham Allen, a conservative commentator associated with Turning Point USA's faith division. '

Good grief. Talk about snowflakes. The world is a much too sensitive place, far too easily offended.

It is not okay for someone who claims to be a Christian to be bragging about shacking up and especially doing so at a "prayer breakfast". Furthermore, I don't see how anyone who claims to be a Christian can say that to point out that fornication is a sin is being a "snowflake", or being "too sensitive", or being "too easily offended".

She is married. She just hasn’t got an official proclamation from a church pastor or the State (a condition found nowhere in scripture)

Nevertheless, it was unseemly to discuss in public.

1 Peter 2:11-12 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Are saying Christians should not marry and engage in the usual relations that come with it?

I have heard of your concept of marriage as a theological issue before, and I am not going to argue over it; personally, I would not live with woman, much less have sexual relations with her, without a marriage certificate.

Remember when the apostle Paul had Timothy to get circumcised, even though it was not necessary, but in order to not have it be an issue in teaching among Jews? Get the marriage certificate.

well, I don’t have any specific memory of Paul preaching (not quite that old) but I do know the passage in scripture.

My point is that we cannot go beyond what scripture says when offering condemnation of actions. She says he’s her betrothed. Perhaps they consider themselves married already in the eyes of God.

It is simply unbiblical to claim it’s not “official” until they get a piece of paper from the state or a church.

But we can disagree on that and agree her comments were inappropriate.

peace to you

Married or not, she was vulgarly out of line. I don't want to know that and I'm sure others didn't either.

But that's today's Republicans and Christians for you - SOME feigning faith while boasting and bragging about the ungodly things they do, watch on TV, say, and really believe in their hearts. Or if not boasting, at least never repenting of it.

She is in my prayers.

People think being a Republican means being Godly. What a joke.

Only Godliness means Godliness.

There are men that consider themselves women and women that consider themselves men; them considering such does not make it so.
Scripture doesn’t support such things.

Scripture does validate the marriage of one man with one women. No where does scripture teach a marriage is not valid until a church or state official says so. Marriage is always and only valid in the eyes of God.

I have agreed with you her comments were inappropriate/vulgar.

I will not question the validity of her profession of faith. May she repent and move forward with God’s blessing.

peace to you

You are painting with too broad a brush. This is a lapse in judgment by a relatively young woman.

I have never thought being a repub automatically makes you Godly. I also don’t believe being a dem automatically makes you unGodly.

So, we agree! Only by living a Godly life in Christ Jesus will someone be Godly in God’s eyes.

Politics really do not define righteousness.

So who decides what is a valid marriage? Do you think two people can just shack up and then when accused of fornicating just declare, "Oh, in our minds we are married?"

Even to think along your way of thinking about it, wouldn't you require such a couple to have declared that they now consider themselves married before starting to cohabitate?

I will not question the validity of her profession of faith.

Yeah, people play so loosey-goosey with what they allow to pass for "Christianity" nowadays that it seems like just about any behavior passes muster with some person or group of persons who consider themselves to be Christians.

Only by living a Godly life in Christ Jesus will someone be Godly in God’s eyes.

God's people are seen as perfectly holy in God's eyes based on their sins having been imputed to Christ and the perfect righteousness of Christ having been imputed to them.

That in no way excuses immoral or any sinful behavior in any shape, form, or fashion.

I did not know she was bragging about anything. I only read the article and some joke some found offensive.

Too many snowflakes.

I agree. It was a joke that a Christian should not have told (whether married, engaged, or whatever).

At the same time Christians should not be so easily offended.

We should pray for our leaders. We should pray for her. We should pray for one another.

But we should not be offended that a crude joke was told.

These prayer breakfasts are not churches. I have seen a few over the years and find very little that I'd associate with my faith. They appear political to me, not Christian. Not sure why.

Too many people who call themselves Christians who excuse sinful behavior.
I agree. The reason is much too often Christians tend to change with their culture rather than Christ.

Too many would laugh at that joke.
Too many would be offended.

On one hand we have crude Christians.
On the other we have snowflake Christians.

I think you got it right with "people calling themselves Christians".

But we should not be offended that a crude joke was told.

Ephesians 5:11-12 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.

I wonder.....how many offended by this person making a crude joke while professing to be a Christian are also offended by Trump using crude language while professing to be a Christian.

Both are wrong.

But why be offended? This was a politician at a political event.

I would address this if it occurred in my church.

But will I be offended when a politician says something wrong?

Nope.
