Mrs Salty and I went to Lowes today to buy a microwave.
We went to Lowes due to the military discount.
We found one that we like and went to the checkout.
I showed my VA card for the discount.
BUT - that item was not qualified for the discount.

I did not object, as Lowes is under no obligation to give a military discount.

However, when you go to Lowes, just be aware that some items may not be eligible for that military discount.

Was it because of a particular manufacturer vs the distributor?

Did they give a reason why? Did you ask?

They stopped giving military discounts on appliances. (I asked last year when we bought kitchen appliances).

Lowe's Slammed for Slashing Its Military Discount [link]

Lowe's spokeswoman Candace Gordon told The Charlotte Observer that, "as of March 2022, Lowe's updated the Everyday Military Discount to exclude select product categories, including major appliances, lumber and electrical cable/wire."

OK… we buy power tools from them. Didn’t know about appliances. Forget Lowe’s

    Here's an interesting story.

I went with a friend to drop off a drill too be repaired at the manufacturer's shop (I can't remember the brand).

He looked at the serial number and said it's worth repairing.

He said each manufacturer has a line they sell to Home Depot and Lowes, and although they look the same they aren't, and they are disposable, not worth repairing.

When I did HVAC I found the same is true with thermostats. A Honeywell thermostat bought from Lowes looks the same as one bought from a HVAC supplier. But they aren't (if you take the cover off this is obvious, but if you don't then you can't tell the difference...same model numbers, and they look identical).

If it has the exact same model #, then the practice is extremely deceptive.

It is deceptive, but at the same time the ones you buy at Lowes are way cheaper.

Price alone is not an indicator. Buying limited stock in bulk can lead to much lower prices compared to value-added reselling. The consumer, and possibly even a seller, may not realize the difference.

The practice isn’t just deceptive, it is extremely deceptive. It’s as bad or worse than selling knockoffs.
