NASCAR is on NBC - They opened up in prayer and the STAR-SPANGLED BANNER! Outstanding!
And I did not see even one person kneeling!,m
In fact, I saw one dad showing his 3 year old how to place his hand over his heart!
NFL, MLB, NBA - take notice!

Does anyone in the NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL kneel during the national anthem of the United States anymore? I don't recall seeing any player do it for a long, long time.

Just out of curiosity, do you stand up at home and place your hand over your heart when watching on TV or listening on the radio to the national anthem being played before a sporting event? I don't.

@Salty So you might be griping about something that no longer happens in the NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL, eh?

The custom (United States Code, Chapter 10) applies to those in attendance, not viewing from a TV.

@Salty I am also still curious about if you stand up and place your hand over your heart at home. Surely you occasionally watch or listen to an event where the national anthem played. When I turned in to watch the races at tonight at Mohawk Park in Ontario, the Canadian national anthem was being sung. I don't know if they do that before every race card at Mohawk Park(they have 4-5 per week), or if it is just because there are some big harness races there tonight.

Does that code apply to civilians who have never been in the military?

I don't know, but it just seems rather odd to gripe about other people doing something, if they even do such anymore in those four leagues, and then just sitting on one's rear at home. Seems somewhat inconsistent for someone who is in or has been in the military.

    Yes. But it isn't law.

Was it something new added about placing one's hand over one's heart, after the attacks on 9/11/2001? When I was growing up and going to high school football games, I remember everyone standing but not putting one's hand over one's heart.

Typically the custom is to face the flag when present. If there is not a flag one faces the music when present. It is not inconsistent as the custom does not apply in ones home.

And, this is not a military code. It is US Code and a custom that applies to all US citizens.

Were it to apply only to the military it would be in a military code (if enforceable by military justice, under UCMJ. If by custom in a military regulation).

On June 22 1942 it was implemented requiring military persons in uniform to stand and salute.

On December 23 1942 it was revised to require citizens and those not in uniform to stand and place their hand over their heart.

It is law....I misstated before. But it carries no penalty. It is not enforceable.

As such, I guess it'd be a sin for Christians not to do it. ;)

The government telling citizens what to do, eh? I wonder if MAGA world is going to start refusing, like they did about being told to wear masks and get COVID vaccinations by the government.

That's what the government does. ;)

It is not an enforceable law and it carries no penalties. The only ones ultimately required under threat of a penalty are Christians as we are to obey such a laws as long as they don't oppose God.

I'm fine with standing up for the national anthem when I am attending an event(which rarely happens nowadays) where it is played or sung, not sure if I always remember to put my hand over my heart, since I didn't grow up doing it.

It doesn't bother me whether people do it or not. I grew up in the South, so I'm accustomed to the custom.
