Several bolts. A whole bunch of nuts.

He worked to pass a clean stopgap spending bill (without money going to the Ukraine and border security).

He compromised, which does not go well with about 8 Republicans.

The Biden impeachment inquiry (doesn't sit well with Democrats).

Ultimately it's a Democrat win (given the timing). Going into an election year the GOP looks incompetent and unable to get anything done. The Democrats will most likely be able to blame the GOP if the gov shuts down next month (which may easily happen) leaving millions of Americans without pay at the end of November.

I think it the Democrat removal (ultimately it was in their hands) of McCarthy was a brilliant move from their stance.

The repubs have VERY narrow majority (5 seats?) McCarthy had to make lots of promises to get speakership and still took 15 rounds of voting to get him in.

One concession he made was any one person could ask for a motion to remove him.

When he negotiated a deal for a continuing resolution for the current budget, and needed dozens of Dems to pass it, many repubs felt betrayed (they really want to balance the budget) and here we are

    peace to you

The bottom line, @Scarlett O., was that Matt Gaetz does not like Kevin McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy does not like Matt Gaetz. And Matt Gaetz had 7 other close friends who would side with him to oust Kevin McCarthy as the Speaker of the House.

Now, there are other secondary reasons, such as issues about the debt deal that McCarthy made with President Biden, and the continuing resolution from this past weekend.

But the primary reason was personal animus.

But Gaetz could not have done it without the Democrats. And they wouldn't have if it were not in their own interest.

The Democrats merely sat off to the side and let the Republicans do their thing. It was not a Democrat who brought forth the motion to vacate, and without the motion to vacate, it could not have happened.

Pelosi remained in the speakers office, until now. Some of the nuts & bolts explanations here are laughable. Simply put, McCarthy did not do what he promised. Have you seen any of the J6 tapes that were going to be released? Democrats defeated all Repub initiatives in the Senate, while no Repub initiatives got passed in the House. The uniparty suffered a great defeat, they didn’t believe it could happen. McCarthy told Gaetz to ‘bring it’. Consider it ‘brought’. A couple of necessary exposures with this vote……interesting. They will become the new darlings of the media, I’m sure.

    @GenFlynn

    This man
    @mattgaetz
is proving to be a man of historic consequence in a time of US History that demands great leaders and even greater leadership to rise to this occasion. God bless you for your courage under intense pressure. Millions, and I mean millions, of patriotic Americans stand with you at this crucible moment.

Motions are a dime a dozen.

It occured with 8 Republicans votes.

That is 8 Republicans and 208 Democrats.

Without 208 Democrats it couldn't have happened either.

The issue now is that the Congress will not be working on what Congress needs the be working on. Millions will most likely suffer because the children are playing games.

I do not like either political party. They are more than foolish. They are evil (the DNC and GOP....not all Democrats and Republicans).

If "millions will most likely suffer", then the federal government is TOO large, TOO intrusive, and its scope is TOO far.

The U.S. party system has gone through various phases over time. In this current phase, U.S. political parties have become much like parliamentary-system parties. The U.S. Constitution was not set up to have parties at all, much less parliamentary-type parties like they have in countries such as England. In this phase of party history, it is not to be expected that one major party will bail out the other major party. As the old saying goes, attributed to Napoleon: "Never interfere with an enemy while he's in the process of destroying himself."

Only some. The far right wingers who think you should never collude with Democrats, as though being a Democrat is evil and ungodly.

Why was the Speaker removed? The majority of Republicans thought he had kept his word. Eight Republicans thought he had broken his word.

Why were the 12 budget bills not passed? The Eight claim he dithered. The majority believe he did not have the votes to pass those late bills.

The first temporary extension was better than the one that passed. Did the eight block its passage. If so, that charge is "Trumped" up.

Well.....you have 1.3 million in the military alone.

But I was thinking more of civilians working for federal contractors. To be fair, I was thinking that because that is me.

I work on a site that employees about 11,000 people. That's just one site. That is about 9,000 to 10,000 people who will not get paid.....no back pay.....if Congress can't get it together.

You have airports, DOE sites, ports, the military, research facilities, IT contractors, food service contractors, janitorial contracts.......

And then you have businesses that will suffer because those other people are out of work.

    Yes, millions will suffer.

Boebert hit the nail on the head. It simply was not the time. Congress is in a 45 day period where they have failed their Constitutional duty. Politically it was the worst time as it hands ammo to the DNC.

You sound just like you did with the vax. A real go along to get along type, it appears. You didn’t care about the loss of income to those thousands of people losing jobs for refusing the vax. But you really care about all those gubmint jobs now. If you have leadership that always acquiesces, you have no leadership.

Sure I cared. But there is a difference between losing income based on ones own decisions/ convictions and losing income based on 208 Democrats and 8 Republicans.

But my concern is the larger picture.

I did not believe that the government should mandate vaccines. But I also believe that business owners should be able to make their own decisions (not be forced by the government or their employees).

This is an entirely different issue.

The business owners and employees are not involved in the decision. They simply won't be funded.
